[unknown] was awesome has helped me before actually a few times. I heard he also had a disagreement with lewis media or something.

But someone as gifted as he is will surely land on his feet somewhere else. The SMF forum I think has suffered from it though.

my 2 cents

Ya, let's show some respect for unknown. Or else I'll lock this thread.

What he does is his business, and we all miss him.

[Unknown] was and is indeed an excellent developer and human being.  In all my encounters with him, he was both pleasant and helpful.

I ran into an SMF issue with cookies from a domain not being from the domain the forum was configured with back in Nov/Dec 2004 when I first looked over SMF.  He and I worked that issue together and though we did not resolve it at that time (mostly due to my departure because of a death in the family), he continued to work on it while I was gone.  I had given him admin access to the site where I had the issue which is not something I generally do, especially for someone I've never met personally, but with the talks he and I had previously, I knew he was a very trustworthy person.

I hope he is (and know he will be) successful in any ventures he is currently working.

He helped me on a number of occasions when I was but a noob. I wish him health and happiness what ever he is doing now and where ever he is.

And the same from me.

He pushed current SMF into where it is now..or was sometime ago lol. Not to mention YaBBSE. His rules and style of coding are very much alive yet.

I can only imagine he get to work on other interesting projects in the future. I am positive it isn't the last we've heard from him. ;)

Let us hope not.

Well I have read many of his posts and he seems to be a cool guy, polite and very knowledgable - but I sincerely believe sometimes people (especially competitors) make a big hype about [unknown] leaving.

We have had people coming on SMf and saying SMF will collapse because he left lol

I used to be part of the ipb community and one of their lead developers left too once and nothing really happend.

People come and people go - thats life, there are better and worse coders out there - so one leaves others come to fill their place.

It would be a great plus if he came back, but I am pretty sure that for whatever reasons he left it must have been important.

My guess for someone so talented - An excellent job offer which keeps him pretty busy to spend too much time online.

Just a little fact : [Unknown] answered the first question in the smf support forums on September 05, 2003, 11:55:17 PM

(there was 1 months space beteween that support topic and the creation of the next one )

And his first post ever on simplemachines.org was a answer regarding a pm bug on July 28, 2003, 06:59:09 PM
