i tried to feature all but i cannot
is there some mode to set various articles in the frontpage at the same time?

I'm not sure I understand the question, but I think you're mistaking the term 'feature' for the term 'publish'. 

'Feature' means it's always at the top of the page, above all the other articles, so it's obviously not possible to have them all on top.

It's mindboggling, isn't it?  About time somebody wrote a set of instructions for this thing.  I might just do it, if I ever figure it all out.

Do you want them to show on the front page, in the middle?

Admin >> Articles >> Make sure the green light is filled in, as opposed to the red.

To set the number of items to display on the front page in the middle:
Admin >> Settings >> FRONTPAGE >> Number of posts to show on frontpage:

If you want only articles to show on the front page:
Admin >> Settings >> FRONTPAGE >> Select "Only articles" for What to show on frontpage:

Is that what you want?

I now at least have some idea what Articles are about. What has me stuck is how BLOC has all these lovely pages such as:

some without the left pane/box, some with.

How does one write these? Cos with them I'll feel like I really can set up a true 'website'. So... (I hope it's okay to say this) I just have to know!

Thankyou, thoraxe. I had thought I'd be able to construct a whole website "around" my TP theme now, but without much more knowledge than I currently have, this appears to not be possible... so I do hope 0.9 comes out soon.

you can, it just requires a lot of klugery and tomfuddlery.  .9 will definitely get me where I want to go, so I might just have to wait.  There is a post floating around somewhere ( I belive "yet another article question") where bloc posted some hints as to what the newer version might contain.

Yep, I'd heard that. I've put another question about getting a "First Page" for people to view when they first arrive on my site http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?topic=5013.new#new in the hope someone may know how to do this. *is trying hard!*
