Can you have blocks turned on on front page/articles/and forum differently?

Front page - right and left columns
Articles - right and left columns, bottom and top
Forum - left column

tino

You can on a per article basis. Not sure about front page and forum, think they have to be the same

I'll be honest and say I'm not sure what you're asking.  :-[  Can you run that by me again in a little more detail.  Also, are we talking columns or panels?

tino

Panels I think they meant, although columns do make sense as that's what they are, or blocks.

Sorry columns. When the forum is viewed on smaller screens and both left and right columns are enabled the forum gets squeezed. And when it's squeezed all of my child forums get a little tough to read. So I was thinking if I could turn the right column off when the forum is open it would be easier to read.

Ok, so you mean panels.  :D

Did you read my post here, https://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=36042.msg292737#msg292737

In that post I said,

Page in general:  I think it looks great as is.  If I had any slight niggles it would be the use of both panels in the forum index and viewing posts etc, forum just looks a bit squeezed between the panels.

To combat this I tend to make the theme as wide as I dare, normally a percentage than a fixed width.  Can also be helped by using only one panel in the forum, but I realise there's only so much you can view without scrolling, so the important stuff needs to go at the top.

The nice thing about blocks and panels is, you can duplicate blocks and have them in both panels, you can then tell that block (for example) Nav block to show in the left panel on the front page, and set your duplicate nav block to show in the right panel in the forum.  Not consistent for a nav menu I know, but that was just an example.

In the edit block settings you can: Choose where the block should appear.

In the panel settings you can also turn off the right panel

Use right panel? On Off
Hide right panel when in forum? Yes No

On smaller screens the Ctrl Scroll mouse button could be a solution. You can scroll up till the panels are showed as like on a phone.

That did the trick. Trying to figure out all of the check boxes.

Might just be me, but I tend not to turn off the panel(s) Something to add to my previous post, if all blocks in a panel are told not to show on a particular page, then the panel won't show either.

Turning them off completely means they wont display on other parts of the forum should you wish them to, such as a board or board category.  As an example, you might not want the panel to show on the forum index, but you might want it to show in one of your forum categories or boards, to add some info etc.  Each board or category can have its own blocks with content relevant to them.

That said, if you don't want or need to do this, then turning them off completely is just fine. ;)

Found a weird issue. I made a post with a youtube video
https://www.youthhockeyinfo.com/index.php/topic,335.0.html

With the left and right panels on this post completely disregards the responsive curve on a phone. If I turn the panels off it then becomes responsive and works fine.
