Hi Friends,
I'm very new at this, so I apologize if I've overlooked something that might be obvious to you.

It seems that the captcha for comments on articles, is required even for registered and logged in members.  Is there any way to get rid of it for registered, logged in members?

I'd like to set it up so that guests can read the articles, but not comment.  And so that only reg, logged in members can comment.  It just seems rude to require logged in members to use that captcha, especially since it seems to be set at high.

If there's no way to get rid of the catcha for logged in members, is there any way to set it for easy?

Thanks for your help  :)

You'll find that in the settings page for articles in TPAdmin > Articles > Settings > Use visual verification for comments in articles?

I don't think there's a way to differentiate whether it requires one to be logged in or not though.

Thanks IchBin.  Oooohh, I had no idea that's what "visual verification" meant.  So it's either on or off?  If I remove that, does that mean that guests (bots) will be able to comment?

I know that I can control who can write articles, by using settings in Categories.  Is there any way to control whether guests can see the articles?  I don't want guests to write articles, or to comment on articles.  But I'd like them to be able to read them, if possible.

Is there a way to set that up?  I'm sorry if this is obvious to some.  I just find TP to be so very complex, and not always necessarily intuitive (at least not to me).

Oh wait....no, the Categories is where you set who can See articles.  Where do you set who can Write articles?  And where to set who can Comment?

Thanks for your patience  :)

Edit
Hhmm....Ok, I think I figured it out.  It looks like guests can't seen any of the TP content, except maybe for what's on the Home tab?  So guests can't write articles at all.  And they can only see them if they're on, or linked to, the Home tab?

Yeah, I'm confused.  If I click on the Home tab, the Comments area doesn't show up at all, whether i'm logged in or not.  But from TP Admin > Articles > Articles in a Category, if I click the tiny magnify glass icon, to view the article, that's where the comments area shows up.  Shouldn't the Comments area show up on the Home tab, at least if I'm logged in?

Edit
Note that I do have Allow to Comment checked, as well as Do not collapse comments initially.  Even if I unclick Do not collapse,, I don't see any way to show comments, for an article on the Home tab.

Ok, I think I've got it figured out -- all of it.

First, if you click on the Home tab, you only see the article.  You have to click on the title of the article to reveal the comment area.  If I''m logged out, it says "comments have been turned off".  But it says that even if I have comments allowed for the article.  So apparently comments are just not allowed for guests (assuming they know to click on the title to see the comments).

For logged in members, they can comment, as long as I somehow make them aware that they need to click on the article title, to reveal the comment form.

So unless I've said something wrong in this last message, I'm good, and we can mark this solved.

Thanks again for your help and patience  :)

Looks like you figured it out brynn. Great job! Things can be a little complicated until you get the hang of it. TP went through so many iterations over time, that unless you were using TP through those times it can be a little complicated figured out why and how things are supposed to work. Wish I had time to work on this stuff to make it a little more intuitive.

Aahh, well if you ever do find the time, I'd be glad to test for you, even over a long time  :)
