My TP+SMF is currently installed on /forums

I would like to reinstall it all on /umforums

But I dont want to loose all of my threads and members is it possible to do this?

Just so you guys remember I am a noob and need a clear walk through. :P

Thanks in advance.

Mitch

G6Cad

Make a backup of your forum in total with all the files onto your local computer.
Do the same on the Database, a total backup.

Then you do a folder on the root of your host and name it to "umforums"
Reupload all your forumfiles into that directory and then go to your forum admin and themes settings.
Change the dir for the templates and portals to the "umforum" instead of "forum" and it should work ok as it were before you moved.

Mitch

Ok now how do I go about making a back up and saving it or what not?
Sorry I just havent had to do this before.

Mitch

I am using RC2 and TP.086 with the update.

Just incase you want to know.

G6Cad

You use some sort of ftp program and connect to your host where you have the forum.
Download all the content in your forum folder from the host.

The database you make a backup from your adminpanel

TwinsX2Dad

Simpler method.

Yes, first backup your database - you should be doing this on a regular basis anyway.

Then IN THIS ORDER......

Admin|System Settings

Four panels - all your work is in the last one.

Change the three directories. In your case, change 'forums' to 'umforums' making certain all three are changed correctly.

Save.

In your FTP program, rename your 'forums' directory to 'umforums'

You may need to log back into your forum, but all should be fine.

Mitch

Well when I did what you told me to it didnt work.
I guess the thing I want to do is move it to a different directory is cause some of the old mods I have have screwed thing up and there are things from different version. I just pretty much ant to start over without loosing my members and my threads.

Is that possible?

G6Cad

check your settings.php file in your rootdir.

########## Directories/Files ##########
# Note: These directories do not have to be changed unless you move things.

That have to point to umforum

and under this line in the same file

# Make sure the paths are correct... at least try to fix them.

IchBin

If you don't dare to edit your files you can run repair_settings.php to change your paths. File is located over at SMF.

Mitch

Ok well heres the thing. If I dont have to move anything that would be cool too but all I really want to do is I guess kind of clean things up and get rid of all the mods that I have had in there becaues they technically arent deleted. And I know some of the mods are causing conflicts in some of my themes. I pretty much want to wipe everything clean but I do not want to loose my members or my threads.

Does this make sense?
