It should work if you keep the database, and upload new forum and portal files and then point it all back to the database

Hi Mitch,

Have you managed to make a backup of your database at all?

The easiest way is through admin>forum maintainance> backup database(you want to make sure everything is checked on) and this will download a zipfile to you desktop...

I just went through this and although it is something that takes a bit of time, it is fairly easy if you have your smf and themes the same version....

the server settings is where you would need to change it from publichtml/forums to publichtml/umforums ( these are the directories where any uploads will go whether they are themes/ mods, etc)

and any scripts you have running at your 'forums site, take a minute and copy/paste them to wordpad/ notepad etc, and remember to change the urls of any links you have in them from forums to umforums....

hope this helps.. :)

No Maya, it doesnt. That only backs up the SMF stuff, not the TP Tables. Tp do a full backup, you need to use phpmyadmin (or similar).

Maya

I humbly stand corrected. Thanks for the info gerrymo.... ;)

and you are right.. you do need phpmyadmin ( I forgot to mention that)

when I did mine...all I wanted to keep was the members, and posts...

I wanted a fresh install of tp, arcade, themes, etc., because I had some mod problems too...

Perhaps I read his question wrong....
I'll leave this with you boys, and know that its in good hands.... ;D

In your case, all you actually needed is the SMF stuff, that is the most important stuff. Hopefully there will be a way in the future to have TP's tables included in the Admin Backup.

Mitch shouldnt actually need to make much changes other than to rename the directory and run repair_settings.php.

The latest version of TP does backup with the database. Bloc added the SMF prefix to the TP tables in the install. I'm not sure if that is fixed in an upgrade. But I know that my Testing site (Fresh Install) does the whole database including the TP tables when I back it up in the SMF forum.

I didnt know that Ichbin. Sorry Maya, I have mis-informed you.

Mitch

Oh its ok. I didnt want to go through that hassle so I just went threw my folders and downloaded things to my desktop and then deleted them off the server so just incase I screw up all I have to do is re-upload it. I did what I needed to do so thank you you guys.
