Agreed with Lurkalot about this topic. No reason to lock a topic where a healthy discussion is going on. Who know's, they might persuade us to archive TP0.9.8 for the public. :D

So this means I have to keep on keeping and keep on maintaining my old TP.0.9.8 test forum?  :o

j/k... me would do that in any case.

Thanks JP.  O0

I'm kind of like a pack-rat though, so it will probably always be there.  ^-^

I am not sure why it was locked..might been an accidental clicking from someone.

Anyways, to reply to some of the thoughts here: TP 0.9.8 is very different yes, at least in how layout setups and modules work. Essentially the v1.0 series was a direct upgrade from v0.9 but changed heavily to accomdate the need to expand in the future among other things.

I don't really see the need to v0.9.8 being available, tbh. TP v1.0beta5 is every bit what 0.9 was and more. More stable? That depends on how you define it. It did less and therefore less prone to errors, thats true. In addition its quite a bit more unsafe, yes, indeed, because care was taken to clean user input better in TP v1.0. it was one of the reasons there ever was a v1.0. :)

I also didnt like that it had to rewrite themes to be able to show panels, or loading in every block even if they were not used...again v1.0 changed all that. The next evolutionary step will be caching, but before that i like to get rid of all errors and declare it stable. Older betas will be removed from downloads as things progress, as v0.9 have been lately.

I've managed to grab a zip copy of 098 from my packages folder for safe keeping.  ^-^

As a result of the discussion in this topic, I'm heading toward a decision. I'm thinking that I might not upgrade to SMF2 at all. I don't really like a number of things that were added to it and the version I have is fine. I haven't upgraded even to SMF 1.1.11 because there wasn't an update file to alter the files, but only an upgrade that required a replacement of all the files and I didn't want to have to go in and alter all the files again. So I'm at a point of deciding whether to use 1.1.11 and fix those files so they suit me or wait until there's a final release of SMF 2.0. I'm leaning towards working on 1.1.11 and deciding to never go to SMF 2.0, even with knowing that eventually it won't be supported any longer. That's okay. I haven't needed support from SMF anyway. :)

Yeah. I just don't like much of the "more" that TP1 does. I prefer the "less" of .9.

QuoteIn addition its quite a bit more unsafe

That's an issue that I've thought about. I haven't run into anything unsafe yet, and, as I recall, the problems that arose were in things that I don't use anyway. So, my use of it seems not to be unsafe. I would like to have the unsafe things taken care of without the new features, though. But that's just me. :-)

I am using TP1b4 and SMF 1.1.11 on a site I'm hosting for a friend of mine. I haven't bothered to upgrade it yet, but I probably should. Maybe I could set up a SMF2 with 1b5 elsewhere for her and see if she likes the new one better or not.

1.1 is still a great script , I really 'think' smf will keep it and keep adding 1.1.11 patches and such... jmho.
