It's true that someone should be in charge like a PM, but that project manager should be voted in by the Team. This person would be in that position because of a democracy. Not because they have power over the company and people because of the position they have put themselves in.

Agreed!  However at days end they are expected to be mature enough to acknowledge that without user support it matters not what they do.  I mean really, what would smf be if all the users said to hell with the drama and went across the street?  It has happened so often, and it has happened to the best of them.

Rebellion is a cycle all sites go through. It has happened to phpbb, joomla, etc... the list is endless....

Things are not good, what will be when SMF will die, TP will die too? :( The best free software, maybe not so popular as phpBB but still the best could be dead. I thought that in this year I will see maybe a final release of SMF 2 but now Im not so sure...

Latly I feel like my avatar robot   :-X

Lets at least give them a chance to work things out.

Thanks and yes, let's hope this is the start of something more productive.

I tried to post this in SMF friends site, but it went down or something. :(

QuoteI have never looked around at using any other forum software.

When I was renewing the .com at godaddy.com I seen there was something called SMF that I could install.

I had not done anything with our .com name until  that day, about 2 1/2 years ago.

SMF has always been able to do what ever I wanted with it and the support from the forums has been great.

But today I have read page after page of stuff that does not sound so good.

In the 2 1/2 years we have been with SMF our site has gone from fun and games to something that generate me a fair amount of income every month.

I have to wonder what I would do if there was no SMF and it maybe foolish of me to just sit around and wait to see what happens.

So I have to ask. If there was no SMF what would be your next choice for forums software?

A few SMF friends have spoken highly of IPB lately. If SMF goes down, that'll be the first one I try out. However, I do not see SMF disappearing any time soon. In fact, I'd wager say that it will be quite a while before we see any progress with SMF either good or bad.

IPB is a darn expensive way to go given all the options out there.  If I had to change it would definitely be to something that is totally Joomla friendly.

It would be nice to see a release of TP beta 5 so we can at least enjoy smf2 beta to it's fullest.

If SMF will die... I will support some other free projcet like MyBB its a quite good.

I've worked with an IPB site... its ok but didn't find it as flexible as open source options with all their modders and developers.
