Winders suk :P
That ol' chestnut?  sheesh, change the record!.. Macs suk and are overrated crApple pretty fashion accessories. I vowed I'd never buy an iPod, I had to relent eventually when my trusty iRiver MP3 player died, with the size of my music collection, and it's a big collection, I needed a high capacity player.
Buying that iPod has been the worst consumer purchase I made.. it randomly crashes, skips tracks halfway through playing for no reason, click back to the start and it will play all the way through. The firmware is rubbish, they've now encrypted the firmware, I was hoping to put Rockbox OS on it.
And I hate iTunes and the fact that the first thing they want from you is credit card details when you register and thats before making a purchase.. Unreal.
I WILL NEVER BUY crApple again.

.. change yur own record!!! , i'm not talkin music , tunes Z  ::) --- only the OS performance , stability , "security" & longevity --
......i have had / used both , mac is all around 100.10% superior than any Winders os imo!
I have become comfortably numb!

I have Windows7 on an X58 machine with 6GB Ram, all in all its an overclocking machine and my 24/7 PC aswell.

I dont really have anything bad at all to say, its quite more stable than Vista, quite faster as well.

It was a major step up from Vista to be honest, and quite nice for now.

Thats over using them for the last 6 Months, from beta version till now, RC1. I wouldn't mind suggesting them to people that are using Vista either, installed them on every other PC i have or built and they are doing well, cant wait for final release.

I dont have win 2008  :P But im happy with 2003 :) Low mem usage and pretty fast for the CPU i have :)

I don't have an opinion on Windows 7 because, when I bought this laptop several years ago with XP Professional, I've never had a need to upgrade it to Vista Business, despite the fact that I've got 2 DVD's sitting in a drawer right beside me, one of which is titled "Upgrade Utility for Windows Vista" and the other one is titled "Microsoft Windows Vista Business Express Upgrade".  The upgrade came with the computer.

When Windows 7 comes out, I may take the week or so that I'm sure it will take to go ahead and do the upgrade to Vista Business and reinstall all my other software, and then, in a couple of years, when whatever comes after Windows 7 comes out, I'll go ahead and take the time to upgrade to Windows 7 in the same fashion.

Trying out Windows 7 is an enticing thought, but I am not someone who immediately upgrades just because I can.  Nobody has really given me a good reason why I should upgrade to Vista yet, let alone Windows 7.  In any case, I'm one of those people who thinks like Ichbin, that just because MS comes out with something new every couple of years, then I should immediately install it, especially giving their pricing schemes.

Anyway, I hope everybody enjoys their Windows 7, but I won't be one of them for quite awhile. ^-^

I will never install an OS unless I try it first in VirtualBox or something. This way, I don't touch anything on my computers current install. If I don't like it, I just delete the image. If any of you ever wondered how to do this, let me know and I can make a short video tutorial on how to try this stuff out. Its really slick. I've switched my family completely over to Linux this way. If any programs need to run in windows, I have a virtual XP image that I can load up for that.

That sounds like a good thing, Please when you have the time, i would like to know how to do just that :)

G6 Win2003 is good, but Win2008 is even better. At one time I was running it as a workstation/desktop OS. There have been several articles written on how to convert it to run as a workstation rather than a server.

Yea, for example Win XP and 2003 server are based on almost same core... but... Win XP doesnt supports 2 & 4 core processors, supports only 3GB ram (3.25GB exactly for 32bit systems and 4GB for 64bit systems)... W2003S supports 2 & 4 core processors and up to 128GB ram*

W2003S configured as workstations works more smoth and faster than XP but less support for graphic drivers and sound... Its kinda lot of work to configure it as a workstation but if u did it... no other from Windows versions (beside 2008 server i think) can beat it ... (no including gaming of course)

You can use Visualization software like Sun's VirtualBox, its free.

But I like Windows 7, I'm running it as my primary OS on both of my PCs and love it. Will be getting it as soon as it releases.

As with all previous versions of operating systems, I shall lurk in the shadows, since I dread system failures/issues on that scale. Of course, you're somewhat stuck with it in some cases at work...

FWIW, my opinion of Vista is not favorable, as I did not prefer it's assumptive approach to assisting me with my tasks in the interface. I really did not like it solely based on that alone (like driving a car- if you are uncomfortable in the driver's seat, it really doesn't matter how great the other features are if you have to drive 500 miles a day with it!)...

Should be interesting to see how w7 rolls through and tries to regain the ground lost to *nix and Apple; the market is more and more open to alternatives, and Micro$oft had best be adapting to what people want from an OS.

Not sure if I am reading you right but XP does support dual core, see my screen shot of my dual cores running under XP.

What you might find is that if you just dropped in a new processor it might still be registered as single core...I'm not an expert on this but see here :
