SMF breaks when switching to a TP theme after TP install

Ok, here are the EXACT steps I performed and the results I got.

First, I am running a Win32 server (IIS) of my desktop (WinXP Pro), I use it for testing purposes. I have PHP and MySQL installed.

My URL www.drakebrimstone.com/forums

Step 1 Delete my forums directory
Step 2 Delete my SMF database
Step 3 Extract SMF RC2 install
Step 4 Rename SMF RC2 folder to forums
Step 5 Copy forums folder to my webroot directory (Same Computer, Drag and Drop)
Step 6 Change permissions to full access for required users
Step 7 Install SMF (using the url for the installer in IE)
Step 8 Close IE (At this point SMF functions properly)
Step 9 Manualy copy (Drag and Drop) the TP zip file to the packages folder
Step 10 Manualy Copy TP RC2 theme (have done Helios, Cerberus and Amber)
Step 11 Revarify permissions
Step 12 Use Package Manager to install TC
Step 13 Install TP RC2 Theme using server directory
Step 14 Set TP RC2 Theme as default

This is where it breaks! There is a bunch of info in the url but the screen is white and if I het the "go" button it sometimes loads properly but usualy either stays white or only partialy loads. This happens with all three TP themes I have tried.

I think you doing right, exept for this step.

Step 10 Manualy Copy TP RC2 theme (have done Helios, Cerberus and Amber)

You should just stick to the default theme under the whole installation.

Do the SMF 1.1RC2 installation, and then do the TinyPortal 0.86 mod installation.
THEN, when you have that up and running and error free you move to the part with install the Themes you want.
Always see to that you make every theme installation when you have your forum and portal set to DEFAULT original The blue that comes with the package).
Otherwise you dont get the nessesary files imported to yor theme of choice.

Hope this will help you sort your forum and portal out.

I thought I needed a TP theme in order to see any of the TP stuff, cause I certainly don't see anything to indicate that TP is installed once I'm done installing it except for in the installed package section. On the Default Theme it just lookes the same as before I installed TP.

Well, I've just repleated steps 1-12 except step 10 then did what I should have been doing in the first place... viewing the error log. I had assumed because I got thumbs up messges when I actualy installed that everything was fine. Turns out there are 52 pages of errors. These errors don't get added to each time I load a page and all seem to refrence different parts of the install and seem to have something to do with the zip file not extracting properly, including some permission denied messages.

This doesn't make sense because permissions are set properly for everything to work.

I seriously dread performing a manual install.

You should just stick to the default theme under the whole installation.

Link wouldn't work... and is in the original post I adjusted the site so nothing can interfear while I do the manual install. And no, it's NOT easy, I have to maualy edit each file, currently stuck on the index.template.php, there are are at least 2 differences in that where my "search for" isn't there or looks different.

Worse still is at some point the files must have been transfered in a binary format cause I have to replace the stupid box characters with CRLFs (wrote a quick VB app to assist with this part)

Just upload all the original SMF RC2 file and over write everything....then try TP_zip via package manager..if it fails Abort.. then run TP_manual_intall.php.... it works..

That's not the problem, the problem that I can tell so far is not all the files are as expected.

Attached is a zip file containing the problem file I have found so far (Themes/default/index.template.php)

It is not as expected in the TP_mod-instructions file

This explains why I couldn't see anything. Additionaly, before I started manualy altering the files in question these files were exactly as they were before I installed TP with the package manager (they did not change when I used package manager to install TP).
