You can check to see if that setting has been affected by looking at that phpinfo page you had up.

Paranoimia

Yup... it's showing as 'off'.

I'm starting to think I may need to go back to TP 0.9.8. I don't want to, but it may be my only option.

IchBin

Well if you ever want to upgrade to TP 1.x you'll need to figure out what settings is keeping you from doing this.

IchBin

Also would like to mention, that if you change this setting a restart of apache is required I believe.

True, but since I don't know PHP/Ajax I haven't the first clue about where to start looking. I can hack around code to insert the odd extra button or install a mod, but I wouldn't know what could be causing this problem if it stood there slapping me in the face!

It's now becoming more important to get the site up and running as it was before, rather than worry about whether or not I can use the latest version of the software. I greatly appreciate the help you guys have given, but unless I can resolve it in the next day so, I'll have no choice but to stick with TP098.

Oh for the good old days when a simple check-box would do the job! ;)

IchBin

Completely understandable. I know you don't have the knowledge to get this working, but in all honesty your host should. I would recommend you go to the older version if you need to. Then, install a test forum into another directory and try to figure this out.

When your host showed you how to set this in the ini, did he restart the apache/php server? This is required for this setting to take affect.

Paranoimia

I've just asked them if apache/php can be restarted.

Regarding going back to TP098... if I proceed to create forums on my current setup, will changing between TP098/TP106 be possible without having to recreate everything, assuming that I install no other mods in the meantime?

IchBin

Not sure what the question is exactly that you're asking about going back and/or forth between the TP versions. So I'll explain it both ways lol. You can of course always upgrade to TP 1.x beta from TP 0.9.8. If you want to go from TP 1.x  to TP 0.9.8 you will lose any TP configuration changes because you'll have to delete the tables in order to go back a version. Its possible either way, only going back a version requires you to start fresh TP tables. SMF tables should not be touched either way, so the forum is safe no matter what you do.

Paranoimia

Sorry I wasn't more specific, but you have answered my question anyway. Thanks everyone for your input.

I will wait and see if the host will restart apache/php and if it makes any difference. If not, I will go back to TP098 to get the site back up and running, and then install a separate test forum to play around with, as suggested.

Thanks again!
