Hi all,

My first post here. I've got  SMF 1.1.7 forum (member activation) and I have another website on Godaddy which is a members only website. There is link in the home page to the forum.

I was wondering, if I install TP can the other website be intergrated such that files, folders, pdf documents, audio, video content, etc be protected? Meaning that only registered members can view and have access to the contents from the other website?

Thanks.

As tp follows the SMF membergroup permissions, you can set up the content with membergroup permissions.

Wow that was a quick reply. Thanks G6.

How would the contents of the other website be displayed? Must it be within TP or can it be _target blank in a new browser? And must the contents of the other website be in the TP folder or can they be outside the TP/SMF folder?

By the way, when I hit the spell check after writing this post, I get a spell check window with highlighted yellow around the misspelled word but the rest of the window is black and nothing is visible except the highlighted yellow word!

HM, i dont think i follow you right now, you mean connect 2 sites to one tinyportal install ?

TinyPortal installs to your SMF forum, with that just that one forum.
You cant have tp installed as a standalone and then impost several forums and content to it.

Okay, right now I've got a members only website which requires a login and user registration. I recently installed SMF forum with a link to it from the main page. So basically I've now got two websites that require two separate registration and logins.

I was thinking of combining the two into one via TP if that's possible.

G6Cad

Your members that have registerd in your SMF forum will not have to register again if you use TP.
You install tp to your SMF as a mod ( it wraps inside SMF ) and tp uses the SMF database membergroups.

When you have installd tp, and start to create and add your content, you can choose what membergroups have access to what content.

For instanse, you have 3 membergroups, 1 2 and 3

You only want membegroup 3 to have access to downloads, you just check the box for membergroup 3 and 1 and 2 will not see or hold access to that download, the same with articles and also blocks

Thanks G6 for your response.

So in a sense it can be done. I was thinking of using the Baker's Dozen mod for SMF from where I can provide members with links to articles, video's documents, etc. Permission is then granted to members as is done in SMF.

When I create content example Page1, which may have a link to say a PDF document or a movie for example, where must the folder for the documents or contents be located ie inside a folder within SMF or can they be in a folder outside the SMF directory? Because I am thinking that if they reside outside the SMF directory then there would be no protection as one could just type the corresponding url an get access to the content without having to register and login.

Is that the way to go about protecting the entire website?

Thanks once again.

PS.
The spell check popup is much better now although still very faint but at least I can now see the rest of the words in the preview window.

Thanks Zetan,

But I am not suggesting that. I intend to use only one ie TP/SMF login registration for the entire website.

My only concern is how do I protect and place a folder with content that I have created? Does that folder reside in a subfolder or can it be external.

Example should it be     /mydomain/forum/myfolder/content   or
can it be                           /mydomain/folder/content/

Because I am thinking that if I use the second method, anyone can just type the url in and get access to the contents. Correct me if I am wrong.

PS.

It seems Zetan deleted his posted after I posted this!!

TP cannot control folders outside of SMF. In fact it only control the tp-downloads folder. So if you like some content to be only available to some, I suggest you use the Download manager to upload them, place them into categories and assign membergroups to those.

If not you have to rely on some other means to protect the outside folders.

About the spellview, do a refresh inside the spellview window, it should be better now.
