Hosting question

I use www.servage.net Found them excellent to work with. 7500MB of space, 330GB/month bandwidth, and up to 25 domains can be hosted. Only ÂÃ,£5.25GB per month. Safemode on by default though, but they'll take it off if you ask).

How long have you been using servage? Do be more exact I would like to know how long they have beenin business. Looks good most provider limit the SQL db's which is what I avoid.

I've been with them about 12 months IRC. The support has been excellent. Any time I've contacted them, the issue has been fixed/done/ or answered in a few hours. They've been far better than any other I've been with over the last few years. I'm not saying they are the best, but they suit my needs 100%.

I'm happy for you that you found out a host which works for you well

But don't be ignorant about my warnings tho, keep a lookout (i'd actually recommend tracking your own uptime & reachability charts).
I would be really cautious, because most likely they will get into trouble someday.

I won't get into maths here, but i did some maths (i have connections to lowest prices on earth on colo services), and they business model seems to rely
heavily on allocating more from a server than total of what is ordered. When i say heavily, i mean very heavily, like allocate 10 times more than what is the total
order amount...

I wonder what kind of hardware they run on, and who is their backbone connection provider(s), you got this info?

I dont know much about the server side of things. all I can do is point you to the info on their homepage at www.servage.net

As for up-time, we've had no real problems there. Only been a couple of times I couldnt connect to the server, and they were only very short periods (less that 1 hour).

I'm always looking at alternatives as well. I'm also planning to start another hosting account elsewhere as my backup and test area (just in case).

Whatever yo do these guys SUCK A**, they are also vistapages.com. I have had nothing but trouble with them! There cheap and for a reason. I posted help on the forum, and they could not answer my question so they banned me from the forum. Look at the profiles in Hostingplex and vistapages Kaumil is the VP over there.ÂÃ,

I'm using Imhosted (www.imhosted.com) and so far they are fine. Any issues I've had have been resolved via email within an hour or so and the DL speed off it is really fast (FTP at least).

I took the basic plan and paid for a full year (can go monthly as well) but my domain name is free with the package.
$95 for the year (about $7.95/month) got me:

5G server space
150G/month bandwidth
20 sql db's
up to 15 domain names added to account
unlimited subdomains
Unlimited email accts, unlimited ftp accounts, unlimited mail lists

They have an OC192 and OC3 connection, 24/7 support
They use dell servers with dual xeon 3G+ processors and 10,000rpm/scsi drives in raid 1 and 4G of DDR ram per server.

I do some video serving and I have used some extensive FTP DL's and found them to be lightning quick. Works for me.

I have had very few problems with them at all and when I did, it's not been a bad experience to get a hold of them.

I have 4 GB of space and at least, 85 GB of bandwidth. Not sure how much bandwidth I have, though, as I won some in a contest. I started out with 75 GB. They're having another contest now and there's the potential to win $50.00 in hosting / domain / etc. credit with their company. I purchased 2 additional GB of space for one-time fee of $20.00.

It cost me $200.00 one time fee (it was on sale, usually runs  around $400.00) for 2 GB of space and 75 GB of bandwidth. Depending upon the package you buy, they have unlimited mySQL databases, subdomains, FTP accounts, cPanel PRO w/ Fantastico, 100MPS port speed, and a lot of other features.The server I'm on is an Intel Dual Xeon 3.00 GHz w/ Hyper-Threading Technology (4 Processors), a 200GB IDE Hard Drive, and 2,048MB (2GB) of ECC DDR RAM.

I have no complaints so far, uptime is great too. They just got a new server for their shared accounts.

I wouldn't be suprised if a lot of these were overselling. Sort of like Gmail. If everyone actully used the 2GB they were allowed to it would either collapse or they'd have to increase they server's a lot.

Thats standard practice!

When I worked at SBC we oversold our network by 300%, under the assumption that not everybody would be using the network everyday all the time.

Same with these hosting companies, including myself. I am a reseller here in my town I over sell my space by at least 200% never had a problem.

yes, overselling...
imho, it's ok when not done badly, but most of these do something like that:
get a 2Ghz Celeron server with 512mb ram, and allocate it 7x...

Even worse is if one gets a VPS....

Which reminds, i should start offering VPS also
