Cisco is a very good piece of hardware. They are used by most companies that I've seen. No piece of software/hardware is 100% secure. Just because Cisco had a flaw doesn't mean you shouldn't use them. If that was the case, I'd be asking does anyone use windows? <-- the most flawed OS ever.

resurgence: the question remains: are they reliable? I do know of that host probably, 2 years contract right?

The thing it that cheap hosts is that marketing wise they don't know anything else than showing off their prices. Probably they are also new and not so experienced in business.

I've known hosts like that in past, all of them are now bankrupt :O
With i've known i mean i knew the owners.

Dunno how today's cheap hosts are, are they reliable or not.
In any case, i don't even want clients who goes for the cheapest one, they are way too troublesome. One like that i had didn't even in the end know what he bought!
I had to teach him all thru about FTP, SSH and stuff.
And after i configured the services for him, for FREE, he wanted moneyback because he didn't know how to use it, even i had been trying to teach him for hours.
*sigh*

Vistapages has 5gig of space and 110 gig of transfer for 4.95mo. 59. a year!

I used them and there is no support to mention but if you good with cpanel (I was not =\) I havent seen a better service. unlimited SQL's, cpanel, fantastico, etc...

the problem with these low cost providers is that they really don't know jack about business survival.
Most of them go bankrupt because of their own weight when they grow, and service generally is quite poor.

They sound on paper really good, but on subjective matters they suck... And i'm not trying to bash them or anything, and even my prices are very low, but not competing on price, i've calculated everything to have sufficient profit margin to make it work for the long time. I'm in this for the long haul (and actually, there is going A LOT behind the scenes even right now, projects, marketing, plans etc. to make everything as good as possible, and for long term success)

I didnt have any problem other then I did not know how to use cpanel, or correct ways to implement different SQL db's and sites. when I went into it I looked at it this way, 5 bucks a mo. unlimited DB's works for me.

I use www.servage.net Found them excellent to work with. 7500MB of space, 330GB/month bandwidth, and up to 25 domains can be hosted. Only ÂÃ,£5.25GB per month. Safemode on by default though, but they'll take it off if you ask).

How long have you been using servage? Do be more exact I would like to know how long they have beenin business. Looks good most provider limit the SQL db's which is what I avoid.

none that i have used actually limit sql databases. i used to use totalchoicehosting but i'm switching to protechgaming. www.protechgaming.net check it out :P they do have a limit of 25 dbs and emails for the green plan, but that's alot for $4.00 a month.
the gold plan is unlimited everything for $15.00 a month, that includes subdomains, addon, bandwidth, storage, dbs, and email. i guess there's no point for that if you're just running a regular website, but if u have more than one website and alot of hefty files, it's a nice service.
also, customer support is excellent :P

Yeap there is a lot of companies offering hosting :)

I recommend not looking for cheapest price, but taking into account the support you are given, if you have a problem, do you want to get answered in matter of minutes or days?
Also, with the way cheapest hosts is a problem:
they might put 200 clients on 1 weak celeron server,
while quality host does:
they put 200 cleints on 5 very good servers, and have in reality people to answer 24/7 to support questions.

Those are extremes, but something you really should check out.

I've used both ends in these kinds of services, and the cheap side of services almost killed my business 1ÂÃ,½yrs ago!
How they did it?
We got DDoSed, and they made it so that for sure in their DC all MY servers would be down, because their hardware was too weak to drop the packets and they needed to route it to somewhere, this problem wouldn't had occured if they would have increased my link speed for the time being, but they didn't do even that.
and on top of that, they didn't even try to resolve it, get it to stop or anything! They were responsible for that, but in reality i had to call all round the world to
get it stopped, because my provider wouldn't call to their backbone connection provider to ask them to drop the packets, and i didn't have auth to get it done,
they said to me that if my provider calls they will do that, but they wouldn't call!
I called all around world to get it stopped, and made some companies investigate & suspend clients with compromised servers in order to get this stopped!
I traced this all way back to singapore, to who caused this attack.

Result:
4 days of downtime because my provider wouldn't do anything, they simply didn't care.

When with a quality provider, they do this automatically, they see a DDoS and their routers take care of it far before it even reaches my servers, and all the time
this continues my servers would stay online!

Never mind that fact they used to have quite often unscheduled downtime without anykind of beforehand informing of it, many times i found out that servers
were unreachable and at this time they tell, yeah there is some network maintenance or some other bullshit.
and never mind that fact that they dropped my link speed from 100mbps to 10mbps without even telling me beforehand, not affecting the price on it etc.
on top of that, they were asking over 300âââ,¬Å¡Ã,¬ money to get the servers back, even i had paid them over 500âââ,¬Å¡Ã,¬ excess already!!

They were shitty company, and the odd thing is that they are considered major player in my country!
That's low cost headache for you :(

(If here is anyone Finnish, company was Mpoli Oy, located in heart of finland's capital)

Skal Tura

Oh yeah, that can never happen to me anymore, i changed to better providers quite quickly and they do act on problems and support works.
The funny thing is, when changing my provider my total costs on this area went down, while services got faster & better! and especially more reliable.
This was because of a structural change, and 1 lost colo client on the transfer, plus some colo client's changing on big custom shared on this transfer.
