Wamp is for windows--lamp is for linux etc

might as well get the latest one from the previous link.

if it doesn't work --work your way backwards--

I think xammp has more features for the experienced but to test code and preview your site wamp 2.0 is great

another one is
http://www.uniformserver.com/

you can install [I don't think it really installs] this along with a wamp like server I think since it is self contained and it is very secure---never could figure it out,but I am Q  :coolsmiley:

Cool is the mamp a free program?  I have a mac os x and I really need one that can test the code before making it live.
OMG, i was 1 day away and this thread is now 4 pages long ... :o

wamp looks really cool...I don't do as nearly as much as some guys here but I still go the old skool ways and load each manually on localhost.
http://www.apachemysqlphp.com/index.html (content a bit out od date but applies)
for mysql admin & querries I use SQLyog with phpMyAdmin.
The real issue is remembering the differences between localhost and live site lol.
Smoky...dejavu...told you that you will be looking into test environment soon or later ftp gets old :)

You can actually get a version of XAMPP which can run fully off of a USB Flash Drive. All configuration information is stored there. Take your server with you from machine to machine:

Hairy

:coolsmiley: That looks really good, I'll be able to use that while at work   ^-^

I'm using a Joomla stand alone server to test out my work.  I use that and then i'll load it up onto my website's development board to test it out yet again.
