:2funny: thank you guys.. at least you have kept me laffing thru this, and i tried to post it in an area that it would be ok for me to post in.. im sure everyone here has some kind of story, and even if you have the best projection, there is always someone that wants to mess things up.. nothing is fool proof, but how you handle these kinds of situations, well.. i need not say anything, but thank you again.. it goes to show that the tp community really does care about people, and that means alot, not just to me, but to all here..  ;)

tomorrows topic will be:________...  :P ::)

Macs are definetly cool and unix flavors are more stable...but little windows rule the market. like it or hate it....and all over a little icon concept lol.
not to get into availablity of "free" software for win.....which is how many of win boxes get infected of those sites lol.

Smoky

right again lebisol.. m$ may rule, but governments are changing to linux.. france, russia etc., why? and when you get fed up enough, because it is a 90% window's world, and most viruses and trojans are targeted to the m$.. where will you go to??  :-\ true, i love the gui's.. visual person i do admit.. and i have a hard time learning new stuff, like tp.. but i do catch on.. well.. sumtimezzz  :P

lebisol

u get  a unix based device to protect your netwrok from spyware lol....that's what I did. Have not seen spyware in yrs.
At the end of the day all I need is blocks LOL.

but what's the fun if ur not forced to format every so often :P

Agree with you lebisol ... I better find an excuse to re-format my hd this weekend.

Two suggestions, one already posted by G6.

Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ewido, now owned by AVG. I've found both to be very good for spyware.
I need to format my main PC as it's running pretty slow and I haven't done a format on it for 2-3 years.

Also when dealing with virus' and trojans, if you can Find (by Searching) the .exe file, simply rename it to something like..
younastyvirus.txt, you may have to do it in Safe Mode..By changing the Filename Extension and deleting all associated files, stops it executing on start up.

This won't work for all nasties.. but it can help.

One thing you can try is to write down what the virus is doing and then put that into the google search engine. Then you find all these other people with the same problem!

This can be a way to find out what the name of it is. Once you have the name you can put that into google and there will be a fix for it.

If your using XP then I found having sp2 on makes a huge difference. Most of these things exploit operating system vulnerabilities.

Up to date antivirus should locate some part of the virus. The other possibility is that it is a hack, someone has hacked in and changed something about the operating system.

You can use system restore to take the system back to a point where it was working well if you have that on.

You can also use the verify signed files feature of xp off the disc and it will look at all the operating system files on your system and ensure they are valid files and have not been tampered with.
