When you say Upload and install. Its that easy., did you mean:

  • unpack zip file into SMF directory and run install.php or
  • use install package procedure?

I am having problem to install it through package installation. It brings me to chmod issue and then ftp stuff which I do not know how. G6 made premade install for SMF1.1.1. It there something similar available?

My system info: Fedora C6 with LAMP

Thank you and looking forward hearing from you.

I think he means that you upload the zip file in the packagemanager and then click the install button.
If it leads you to the ftp part, fill in your FTP account there.
FTP URL = ftp.yoursite.com or what you might have)
FTP USername =
FTP Password =
And the path to your forum folder.

That will make the changes needed for the files during the install.

G6,

Thank you for the info. Do you happen to know how to set up vsftp on Fedora C6, or source of information? I installed vsftp but do not know how to configure to meet the demand of SMF usage.

Thats over my head im affraid, but i think you might get a good answer on it if you ask in the Server and Host childboard called windows

http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?board=69.0

Ray have worked pretty hard on a linux setup, and IchBin and Thurnok do know their way in that, so hopefull one of them will help you out.

If you look in the newest post made in that forum, both Ray and IchBin have posted links to websites where they have exellent description on running diffrent linux servers :)

All of the configuration options are located in the config file for vsftp. Thats the same FTP server I use on my server. The file usually is located in the /etc/vsftpd directory. Its pretty well documented and explains things pretty good.

Do you mind to drop lines that will meet SMF and TP needs.

Thank you.

IchBin

It should work right out of the box. What problem are you having?

I found
a. http://netadmintools.com/part355.html and
b. http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=122931.0

I followed a. whatever I do: get

[root@localhost vsftpd]# ftp localhost
ftp: localhost: unknown host
ftp>
