Map of Visitors to Web Site

My brother and I have been working on this service -- www.mapvisitors.com, it generates a map of visitors to any web site just by pasting this html snippet in the layout or footer:

Now I would like to take a step further and try to integrate with my TinyPortal site at http://forums.new-eastside.com
It would be nice to see a map of current users, users in last 24 hours, users color-coded by activity (# of posts) etc.

Is there a development guide for SMF or TinyPortal that would help me to get started or should I just poke around and read directly from the database tables?
