My rant....

So today I go to school. I listen to an hour lecture of data binding in C# programming. I have a chapter to read through and go over the step by step examples given. I'm following along in my Visual Studio.net program and for some dumb reason I can't get my program to compile. It's giving me an error. I double, tripple, quadruple check (and more) for errors in my code comparing it to the book.  My code was EXACTLY the same as the books. Yet, I could not get it to work. I spent about an hour trying to figure out why my program wasn't working. Then I decided to just start trying things that I thought would work. LOW AND BEHOLD! THERE WAS AN ERROR IN THE BOOK TEXT! lol

I freeked out when I finally figured it out and my instructor was like, "Yo! Whats the deal?" So I told him how I justed wasted an hour of my class time trying to figure it out when it wasn't my fault at all. My instructor wasn't very sympathetic....so right now I'm a little annoyed that he took it so lightly.

That's unbelivable that he was not sympathetic.  Maybe he was embarrassed.  Did he write the book?

Something similar happend to Kevin not to long ago, he had homework from school and he spended 2 hours on it, and it didnt work, he asked me if i could check, i read the book, made the steps, and it didnt work, Linnea did the steps, didnt work.
Then we googled on the problem and found on google that it was a bad example in the book he had, and that fault was found over a year ago, but no note in the book, no note from the teacher or nothing. When he came home the day after, he had a note from the teacher to us ( me and my husband) that we must see to that he made the homework they end with the children home 
My husband (have a really bad temper some times) drove to schoool and grabbed the teacher and forced him to follow the steps and then... Well, Kevin didnt get a lower grade on that test

Always check a book's website for error corrections

I can relate to this...

I've got literaly hundreds of books on various programming languages and more than half of them have my scribblings inside where I've had to correct examples that had errors in the published release.  I probably should have written the authors asking for a refund.

I couldn't believe how much time I spent on that error. A lesson well learned though, I won't drive myself crazy not thinking it couldn't be the book from now on.
