Yup our is set to 1 hour, including the Admins.  For some reason we like to smite each other out of fun.  Some people actually wait that hour to smite the same person again.   :2funny:

i wish someone would make a better rep system like they have on vB its so awesome - in their rep system u have the followin features:

- Rep allowances per membergroup (who is allowed and who isnt)

- min posts required to give reps

- commenting while giving reps (which appear in the CP)

- rep using ajax and js (ur page dosent even refresh! - just a small form pops up asking u for coments and number of points to award! - So cool)

- rep power (the more reps u get - the higher ur power is - the more rep points u can give per member)
[So like if I have 1000 reps, my rep power will become 12. That way whenever I rep a person I can give any number of points between 1 and 12 to a member.]

Anyways - im gona split these posts outta here and move to chit chat under the heading "Karma System Discussion)

I installed the Karma Description Mod from SMF.

You can enable the Karma for certain groups and you can set a limit on the minimum post they have to have in order to give Karma.

Ours is set at 50 posts and they can not give Karma to the same person within an hours time.

The mod comes with a Karma log so you can see who gave you Karma, what their reason was, and what thread they gave you the Karma in.

The mod also shows you the top 5 applauded and smited members, etc.

It doesn't give you points though.  It does update the profile.template.php file so you can see who gave you Karma and who you gave Karma too.  This way you don't have to filter through the Karma log.

I know what you mean.  I had them too with my SMF 1.0.5 version, but the new one is more stable (knock on wood)  LOL.

I may try it out - but what I am REALLY hoping for is some mod maker will make a rep system like vB :D that would be cool

do u know where the expression "knock on wood comes" from?

It would be cool to have some sort of point system.  I think my users would go for that for sure.

Where does the expression "knock on wood comes" from?

OFF TOPIC SORRY
Knock on wood or Touch wood

The phrase voiced by people who rap their knuckles on a piece of wood hoping for good luck. In the UK the phrase 'touch wood' is used.

From Wikipedia
QuoteKnocking on wood, and the spoken expression "knock on wood" or "touch wood" are used as a charm to bring good luck or to avoid "tempting fate" after making some boast or similar statement.

The expression is usually used in the hope that a good thing will continue to occur after it has been acknowledged. So, for example, one might say: "The rain looks like holding off, knock on wood", or "Knock on wood, I'm much better now."

It is commonly thought that knocking on wood has been a superstitious action to ward off evil throughout history. Some believe it has to do with knocking on the wooden cross. Another explanation for this practice is the pagan belief that spirits (dryads) lived in trees. By knocking on the wood of a tree while making some sort of a bold statement, the speaker could prevent the spirit from hearing him and stop the spirit from interfering.

However, there is no evidence for such theories, and the superstition has not been traced beyond children's games of tag of the early nineteenth century.
