Not new but this is driving me daft!

To be truthfull I have'nt got a clue!  I uninstalled and installed it that much I looked and it was there!  The package manager is a waste of time for this.  I have to go through nearly every image file and chmod it to 777 which takes forever.  I have got it all working eventually but in the Amber theme I can't get the themes/amber/images/post/xx.gif to show, it is set at 666 as with the other images.  I can't change the chmod it won't let me.  Any ideas please to let me finish this off.......

upload the images from the default theme to the Amber theme and choose to overwrite the other ones

Well I wouldn't blame the package manager for this. The package manager is doing its job. The problem lies within your server configuration. If your files are being set to a permission that is screwing things up, that is server related not SMF/Package manager related. This is something you should work out with your host. If you can't edit or overwrite a file its because the ownership/permissions aren't set for you to change them. You'll have to tell your host to fix it for you.
