I was having trouble installing Tiny Portal 0.95 on my current SMF board. When I tried to install TP, I got a database error.  So I created a new, clean board elsewhere and tried to install TP on it.  This time I got 2 database errors.  Here's the report:

Database Error: MySQL server has gone away
File: /home/********/public_html/********/Sources/Subs-Package.php
Line: 2019Database Error: MySQL server has gone away
File: /home/********/public_html/********/Sources/Load.php
Line: 1981

Does anyone have any idea what this problem is and, better yet, how to fix it?

Seems like you dont have any contact to your sql server.
Try to upload the manual database install file only from the download section and point your browser to the file.

But it seems more like the server is off line

Are you speaking of this file?
TP_V095_Precoded_1.1rc3_files_for_manual_TP_Install.zip (167.78 KB - downloaded 13 times.)

No, im talking about the manual DB install file only in the download section here

http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item326

Download the file, upload it to your forum root, and point your browser to the file, it will update the DB, so if anything there is missing or broken, it will fix the database

OK, that seems to have it working except that in the Admin area there are no menu options for working with TP.  There is just a section for TinyPortal, but it's empty. What did I do wrong now?

Do you have any other language set as your forum default then English?
If so. you need to add that language files in to for TP

Nope.  Default is English.

Is there anyone else is has an idea how to solve this problem?  I'm not terribly proficient with php, but can give it a go.

Thanks!
