I don't know if this has been asked before? But I think its a important part of running any website/Forum.
Let us know what you do? and any comments you may have

I do it at least once week ;)

Every day before bed time, Complete backup of both files and db

The last backup i made was probably about a month ago. I dont run a public forum though , just 4 smf test forums and other various scripts..........

If i was running a public forum though i'd make a backup at least every 2 days via the control panel and a complete forum file/database backup once a week.

Since I run my own Server at my work I run a backup script that makes a backup of my complete MySQL folder and my Home foler everynight. It then uploads it to another machine which is set to backup on demand (when files change or are added to the folder), to an offsite location.

I have a mirror of my full site (all the files/directories) on my PC. I have a cron'd script to backup the DB to my storage on the server (outside the html branch) and a scheduled job at home which ftp's a copy to home PC to preserve locally (and which I can use to keep the local mirror site up-to-date).

I don't actually have a site now. I have everything but the software installed ready to go. I'm waiting for some people and SMF to go to 1.1 before doing that. All I have are test sites with no content or anything, wouldn't matter at all if something happened to the individual installs, I'd just reinstall them.

If I did, it be something like what Alan S said, but a I'd do a complete forum file/database backup more often than once a week:

Ken.

If you are a beginner like me you need two or three backups a day and even then you can get into deep do-doâ€Ã,¦ most every day. ::)
