My first theme [Not Completed]

Im after creating a smf theme based on films/movies , its a fairly basic theme but its not quite done and since i have really no idea about creating themes i was wondering if anybody has any suggestions?

I havnt made it tinyportal compatible yet since im not done.

I intend to change the buttons at the top to appear in one smooth bar but other than that i cant really think of anything that would make it look better.

this can easily be a really excellent theme

a few things i can say are:

- icons for boards, better needed
- menu, make buttons smaller or maybe in shape of filmstrip
- header needs to be smaller
- board body, a little wider but indented towards the right (so the film strip on left is visible)


thats all i got from my 1st impressions

I`d go along with Aku on the board images/icons etc. Also i can`t see the right hand verticle strip.

I was already thinking about changing the board icons , maybe to a popcorn button or something. At the moment there of the Oscars trophy but its so small you dont really notice it.

I like the filmstrip button idea. Im working on it now.

I think i'll actually make the the filmstrips at the side smaller so i can make the forum larger , at the moment i wont look that well if its using tinyportal because its cramped.


I was also thinking about adding the "20th Centuary Fox" sound effect to the board index , Do you think this is a good idea or would it be annoying?

Love the concept. I'm a real movie fan myself, so that's a lot of fun. I like the idea of popcorn icons. And Jujubes. (Does anyone eat Jujubes anywhere but the movie theater?)

Personally, I find any sound on any website to be annoying. I keep my speakers turned off and only turn them on when there's something I particularly want to hear. I guess yours wouldn't annoy me because I wouldn't hear it. The real trouble is that if you put it on your forum, people who have their speakers on will hear it over and over and over again, which will become annoying. I don't think there's a way to work it so that they just hear it once per visit, unless you connected it to something like the login.

How about something like this film spool as an icon?

Alan, let me know if you want to use that spool because i just did a real quick erasor job on it, and can make you a nicer one.

I like the button bar, but not too sure on the actual buttons or font. Tell me to but out if i get over critical please (i can get a bit like that)
