There seems to be a limit to the size of the comments on Articles.  Is there a way to increase this?

G6Cad

If you mean how many comments to show ?
Admin/TinyPortal/Settings/Max rating:  (default is set to 5 ) set it to the value you want

Rocket

no, the length of the comment, as in how many characters or words..

G6Cad

Admin/TinyPortal/Settings/Frontpage/Length of posts to show on front page ( in characters ): (default 150) set the value higher

Rocket

Nope, that's not it... That is for forum posts.  Tried it anyway and it still didn't work.  Maybe I am not explaining this clearly.

I created an article and I call it from a link in the menu.  Comments are enabled for the article.

When someone enters a comment that is somewhat lengthy, part of the message is cut off.  I would like to change the characters limit for article comments.

Does that make more sense?

... is their an explanation for this problem? The last post here was on Sept 24? I have the same problem!

The value for the db field is set to TEXT type, which supports up to 65536 charachters. Sometimes half of that will be available if other languegas are used.

So if the comment is that long or longer, it will get cutoff. Setting it to LONGTEXT will solve that though.

But imho the comments shuld not be allowed to be that long really. They are just..comments. Not articles.

sanax

Hi Bloc... damn, am I glad to see you!! lol

Ok... in my case people can add long comments! The comment length in my forum is not even close to 65536 characters... It's getting cut off in the range of 500

bloc

ehem..yes, thats because I put in a limit there. I will change that, but in the meantime: open up TPmodules.php and find this line:

          $comment = substr(strip_tags($_POST['tp_article_bodytext']),0,600);

and replace with:
          $comment = substr(strip_tags($_POST['tp_article_bodytext']),0,65536);

Having a limit of 65536 just makes sure it will fit within the db field type of TEXT.

sanax

you mean the TPmodule.template.php?

I can't find it :(

I upgraded to 1.1.1 and had to change an xml file to make it compatible for the version. Will it make a difference?
