I will convert my 'production' forum from xoops to smf/TP after doing some testing.
One thing I miss in smf/TP is a wysiwyg editor for the messages.

At the moment my members use the koivi editor that I implemented in xoops forum, it's a small version with only things my members need.
For a limited time you can reply anonymous on my testforum here : http://www.rainbowshaman.com/spirit/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=305&forum=33
and see how it works.

I tried to implement hot editor (on the default theme) but that did not work, got error messages. I used the hot editor on a phpbboard.

To me the standard editor used in smf is like a stoneage thing, and of course one can get used to it, you can get used to everything, but I want to give my members a forum they can handle with ease.

So, how about it? Any changes of a wysiwyg comming to this world?

akulion

yea i want that too

its good to be able to have easy to edit options at ur fingertips

dont know if it will come or not though for smf

but in tp we have some editors present which give u easy to edit options

Just out of curiosity, what features are you missing in the editor ?  ::)

Well it is not as much a personal thing, I 'grew' up with 'li' and norton editor, assembly/fortran, pdp and vax.
My members (the greater part) hardly knows how to turn on their computer, they are used to wysiwyg, they just want to see how it looks what they are about to post. And they want to use nice smilies.
And I listen to my members, because we 'make' the forum together.

So, what they want basically is a small editor, with less options as are in the default editor used on smf forums, but wysiwyg.

There may be a mod over at SMF that adds the editor for messages. It's not really an TP query...

1) There are numerous requests for a wysiwyg editor on smf board, but no replies, or replies like:"Why in the world should anyone want wysiwyg for the members?"
2) Now there are already 3 editors available in TP, a small version of one of them could be used by my members

That's why I'm askin' here.

I think it could be easiley be done. i dunno...

All the free editors are buggy though. Only 3 really work cross major browsers...

There's one you can buy($399) and redistribute in an application royality free, but it doesn't have opera support.

My statistics say that 94.5 % of my visitors uses IE, 4.9 % firefox, 0.1 % safari, 0 % Opera.
I use mostly maxthon, that uses the ie engine.

I used fck editor for years on my xoops sites, I like it very much, it has good ms word filters and good image handling. But it is a bit to big for my purpose now ( small wysiwyg for members)
I used spaw editor too, but there it was a battle to get everything where I wanted it on the page.
Tiny MCE editor, nice editor but very slow loading even with compression, so also not suitable.
The one I'm using now for my members on my xoops site is Koivi, it loads very fast, it's easy for me as admin to ad/remove options.
Somebody started some time ago to devellop a koivi editor that is wysiwyg, but the output is bbc, but unfortenately I did'nt hear from this project again.

My friends and I used hot editor on phpbboards, though it is not a 'professional' editor, members love it.
That's why I tried to implement it on rc3/tp (default theme), but untill now I didn't succeed, because things have changed in smf.

u can get free and comercial editors from here

http://www.htmlarea.com/
