Download manager problem and suggestion.

If Im just not using things right, please let me know.

I have SMF 1.07 and TP 0.86.  My user uploads a file to my site and I go into the download admin area, I click on submissions and see which files are waiting for me.  I click on them and without clicking delete or approve, I just click on send.  But it seems that this approves the file without my actually clicking on the approve checkbox.

Next is a suggestion, As the administrator, I'd really like to be able to download the files my users upload before releasing them to the rest of our members, but there is no link that will allow me to download whatever the user uploaded.  I attempted to do it via FTP (Which would be a real pain if there are multiple files since I'd have to remember which ones are ok and which ones are not) but the server said I dont have permission to download that file via ftp.  So it would be nice to have a direct download link on the download managers submissions page.

Now if Im doing this wrong, or there is already a download link that Im not seeing please let me know.

A way for you to check the files they submit is to download it through FTP or Cpanel
All files uploaded are in the folder tp-downloads and you find that folder in your forum root

In the next release of Tp there are several new features in the download area you can sort, test and fix both submissions and your own files you have in the download area of the forum

I would say that, especially if you have many files, FTP is the quickest way, as you can check and download multiple files.

Just sort them descending by date and keep a backup in your PC. You may do a sub directory for recent unchecked and move them to a checked later.

Do you use a host' s FTP utility?

Added a [download] link in edit screen for submitted(and regular) uploads for v0.9.5 of TP. That should make it possible to review the file before approving for example.

I've tried to download the files via FTP, but I get a permission denied error.  This would indicate to me that when a user has uploaded a file to my server using the download managers upload system, then the file is not being written as my account being the owner of the file, so when I try to download these files via FTP, it will not let me.

I do not use Cpanel, I use virtualmin and have tried using virtualmins file manager but also get permission denied errors.

Edit:  I thought I might be able to put a direct link in the TPdladmin.template.php file using the file name variable that puts the name of the file in the textbox, and just append this to a simple html url link, but it also gave me the same error of Access denied.  So it looks like I am just stuck until v0.9.5 is released at this point.

Does anyone know of another downloadmanager system that can be used with TinyPortal and SMF that I could put in place until the v0.9.5 is released?  The upload/download system is a really important part of my site right now and unless I can find another way of downloading these files, I can't approve them for members of my site to download them.

I do however realize that I can approve the files, then jump quickly to the dl manager and then download them, scan them, and if there is a problem, go back in and delete them, but in the meantime someone else could have downloaded them and then have a virus or some other nasty.

The downloaded files have file attributes 600 that' s why you can' t see them there is also an .htaccess file with restrictions.

I don' t know virtualmin and it' s options but I would suggest downloading FileZilla, an excellent freeware FTP program. That will do the job, plus it will give you access to many actions, usually not provided with host' s FTP utilities.
