I have a request that I have been thinking about a lot lately.

It would be about like this page. (notice there is also a block in the middle - top with the most recent)
http://www.illicitgaming.net/matches.php

which then opens a page like this with all the details.
http://www.illicitgaming.net/matches.php?id=42

You can click on details to bring up what looks like a post that allows comments.  I guess that would work like the forum, but the 1st post would be pre-formatted with fields.... those fields would be pulled to make the index.

As I type I am thinking about it and I guess I could just edit Bloc's Wiki style theme to look like mine and use the pre-formatted post code Found Here.  Use that theme for 1 board used just for matches... Then create a block (to show most recent) which I manually edit and an article to manually edit each time for the index.  The reason I don't want to do that is because I want to allow certain people to update it without giving access to articles, etc.

There are many clan sites out there using tiny portal and I'm sure most would be interested in a module that did this.  I don't have much money but I could give 10.00 to anyone willing to do it.  Maybe some other clan site owners would be interested and donate a little too.

so as I see it, you want the information for that page to be pulled from posts in a thread? or is there some other way that you want in input?

you could do something like that in perl, but really imho if you are going to go to the trouble of posting in a thread, you could also  put the info in directly somewhere that is easier for the mod to access (ie a database)

londonhogfan

I think ideally it wouldn't pull from a post.  I just thought that might be easier.  A regular old form to input the information would be perfect in my opinion.  I was just trying to think of a way to allow comments from members on the match.  Also a big part of this would be a way to show the most recent matches and a list of all of them.

Techdomain

that is what I would use - an input form, and a "search" call to the database (or you could use a different db really) to retrieve the info.
I just threw this together: http://www.techdomain.com.au/shop.php which is a search form, to display answers (I am trying to spin what you want into what I want) but you can easily leave it out (makes it heaps easier actually). all your page has to do is connect to the db.

how often would you be putting new information into that page? daily? weekly? yearly? other?... just wondering, as if its not often, a text file upload to phpmyadmin would be easiest, but if it was going to be regularly and one entry at a time, a form would work best.

londonhogfan

it would be 1 entry at a time and done aprox weekly.

problem is I want to allow people to do this that I wouldn't give phpmyadmin access too.

Techdomain

well then you need to use a form... if you really wanted to get tricky you could allow certain usergroups to access it (I dont know how that bit works though).

I will take a closer look at the form/database/output side in the next week or so.

A really sweet mod would be to port  vWar from PHP-NUKE to SMF.

yes, you speak the truth.

vwar would be awesome if it was integrated into smf.  I don't know much but I would be willing to provide the space to test it if someone was interested in making it work.

There would be an extra dollar in it for ya  :o  :uglystupid2:
