editing / updating files by uploaders

On the 2 sites that i'm running now using Tinyportal and SMF.. members have often asked me for the ability to update / edit the articles and files they've uploaded into the DL manager..
At the moment I'm having to go in and delete old versions after they've uploaded new versions

hat I'd sauggest is a ay for members to update the files and descriptions stored to the files that they themselves have uploaded .. and Articles too

I'd also like to have the ability to D/load and Preview the articles / download prior to approving them

The articles i think is editable for users if they are the authors for them, but im not sure it is with the downloads though, i think only admin can edit in the downloads

You can set usergroups to "Manage Downloads" in the permissions for the group in the SMF admin panel. This does not work for Post based groups.

but then wouldn't they be able to adjust ANY downloads then.. not just the ones that They have uploaded

You lost me there BlueSteel.  If you add the permission for them to manage downloads, of course they can manage the downloads including the ones they have edited. In the next release I think you can edit the info, but not in 0.86 if I rememeber right.

They want to be able to update (replace) old files when they have newer versions or change the descripotion or hat area they they told it to put theit uplad in

At the moment every time they have a ne version they have to upload it then email me to tell me if they want their old version deleted ..

I tried the same today, I have a file in the DL manager called Flying Event Leaflet. It is currently version 1 but I wanted to upload Version2, so basically replace the version with the new version.

I tried several times in the DL manager to replace the file but all failed, in the end I had to delete the file and then upload the new one and replace all the links to this file.

Is there a simple way to replace a file and keep the links the same? did I miss something?

You can edit the download and change the name of the file that its pointing to. Then you don't have to change any links. More options are to come for this stuff in TP 1.0 though.
