I am trying to install Tinyportal on a SMF 1.1 RC2 forum - http://www.pvcblue.com/forum/index.php - after uploading and telling it to apply I get this warning message -

Error in Package Installation

At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

the error refered to is shown below as -

8. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/index.template.php Test failed

are the MODS I installed what cause this??

these are the installed MODS -

1. Enchanced post template 1.0Ã,
2. Dilber MC 1.0Ã, Ã,
3. Custom Action Mod 2.0Ã,  Ã, Ã,
4. SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update 1.0Ã,  Ã,
5. User Email System 1.0Ã, Ã,
6. SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update 1.0Ã,
7. SMF Staff Page 1.2Ã,
8. Board Viewers 0.6Ã, Ã,

Thanks for any help !! :)

More than likely they are the cause of it yes. If this isn't a live site you can go ahead with the install and then just install a TP theme. But I would advise that you don't do this if you're using the site live. And of course, always makes backups before doing anything.

Ok - I was told over at the SMF Forum I could do a fresh re-install and then have the tinyportal, one person said to save my database and I could have all the posts and member info saved, but I do not know how to reupload the database - any suggestions?

Another person said to just re-upload all my files except the settings.php and settings_bak.php - I am not sure if this would work - what do you think?Ã,  Thanks

IchBin

Yes all you need to do is upload a fresh batch of files for SMF. Don't replace your Settings.php file as that holds all your database connection information.

Ok will doing this erase my members information? Also what about posts already made?

IchBin

No it should not touch your database which is where all that is stored. Please make a backup before doing anything though. :)

ok just one more question - I do not mean to seem thick but - I am not sure about one thing - do I do the re-install then re-upload or just upload fresh files over the files I have and is is just the php files as I have special graphics? ???

IchBin

If you upload the package with the SMF files it will replace the older files with new ones. That is what you should do for a "clean install" of SMF. Any graphics that are part of the default install will get replaced. If they're your own graphics and they weren't part of the SMF package then they will not get replaced.

As I said though, make a backuk before you do anthing. So if anything gets screwed up you can just restore the backup back to normal.

ok I am ftp downloading all my forum files, then Monday I am going to do a forum maintenance database back up - now is uploading the SMF package what you are calling a re-install? I was thinking a re-install was delete the forum, re-install the forum programs, then upload my saved files over them? I am so confused and hopeless! LOL!!  :idiot2:

Crip

If you want, PM me your Ftp// login info, and I will install TP for you??
I have become comfortably numb!
