Automatic invitation?

How many of you check to see who is online and find that there are a few quest that are viewing the site for a while and reading something, but you would like to know who they are and if they are really reading?
I would like to see if a quest is viewing the forum that every time they click on any link within the forum it will take them to a separate page asking them to join the site, and having a link for registration. Or maybe a time limit that they can view it until they get that page, do you think it is possible for this to happen? I would like to see something like that happen.
Of course it would have to be a secure page, with maybe screen shots of what they can do if they become a member, what is available to them, and so on. I think maybe some of you might think it might be stupid, but yet I think at the same time it would be great to make some kind of contact with the person at some point.

I would prefer the bread crumb trail. If you give them enough info that is available to them that will make them want to stay, you could always advertise on your site somehow what they are missing by not being a member. Doing it as you suggest would take some trickery with the session. I think most people would prefer to not mess with the session information with SMF. Just my $.02

Probably the easiest way is to use the regbar mod, and change the entry in the english mods file to what you want it to say...

that will place a bar at the top of your site telling them what they are missing (eg http://www.techdomain.com.au )

That mod is good, although i personally don't like it, The bar created looks somewhat like the roldown from FF or IE with (A pop up was prevented by FF) or similar

I think a article with images and text is a better way to show what content you have on your site. Images with screenshot to the content attract better then plain text to.
Like Bloc have here on this site with the "icons" on the frontpage (themes, forum, etc)

you are right... it does look like a sticky label gone wrong! you can of course edit the css (reg.css)
