Slashdot is running a story (http://developers.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/08/18/1622210&tid=169&tid=106) on the breakup of the Mambo dev team and linked to www.opensourcematters.org -- which is running SMF and the Oxygen theme on their forums.

Bjørn

Yes, I have noticed. All the best of luck to the new Mambo incarnation..support 100% to keep it open source still.

And really great they are using SMF - and Oxygen theme. :)

FBI

Sure.. Currently I suspend my portal using mambo. While migrating to the XOOPS :)
But, SMF quite better after found Portal Theme.. But currently using great SIMPLICITY theme.

But, Mambo still the great portal that Google friendly :)

Is everyone here smf only, or are there people using mambo.....I tried it, but I really didnt like it, for some reason or another I fiddled with it for afew weeks, but I never acomplished anything that looked happy. For the most part, I kept getting confused when I would update a block (area) and then it took me over 5 minutes to find out where it actually posted to (what page). So I said :P and went to SMF

borgBOB

pengi,

I also tried Mambo, and IPB, and phpBB.  But once I discovered SMF I was sold.  IPB, would have been good, but to get the best stuff costs WAY too much money. Mambo, as a CMS, was also very complicated and had to be used in tandem with other programs. SMF is the answer for the future.
And once I saw Bloc's amazing Themes, love at first sight.
Then when Bloc decided to make all of these things work with just one program at the core, I thought my prayers/wishes had been answered.

Once TinyPortal comes out of beta mode, I am guessing this will become one of the most popular Posrtal's for SMF. And with the features Bloc has planned, it will go beyond SMF.

More than likely I will still continue to use Blocs Themes, but unsure with the TP since it has put my hoster into like an all out shock and rampage when someone on SMF's site suggested the 777 w/o thinking of the bad things that can happen from it. Bloc, please know that he does not mean you specificly (sp) but hes quite upset that I would need to expose so much of mysql in order to use TP. I still love your themes and your portal that I cant use.

Bjørn

Thats ok. Does all mods stop installing for you?

you know, the package manager does the changing of SMF files, copying the TP files AND the database changes for you. But there is nothing stopping you from just doing one thing separatley. Upload TP files through ftp, run a SMF file-only mod( if mods indeed work, just not TP) and just use a sql file through phpMyadmin or similar for the tables.

Let me know and I can make this happen. As mentioned elsewhere I am working a manual approach and this is just a variant of that.
