Maviarab

Hi, hope some of you great people can help me here...posted the below msg in the smf forums and as yet ive had no reply..and i really need to get my forum back up asap...so maybe someone here can explain to em what im doing wrong :)

Quoteok ive spent waaay to long trying to fugure this out

Followed grudges instructions but got stuck on the db import.

installed new forum on new server...and tried to import backed up db...still no luck.

new server is with 1&1 ( think they great company before we start the convo again lol) and using uploaded phpmyadmin does not work...i get error msgs.

if i use phpmyadmin throught the control panel...then click query sql..then import...it appears to do nothing. If i click on the import table section it again appears to do nothing.

i finally found restore_backup.php and thought this was my answer...all went well until i recieved this error msg:-

Some of the queries were not executed properly. Technical information about the queries:
Line #4946: Invalid default value for 'logTime'
Line #4963: Table 'db165546601.smfdiggirl3_log_online' doesn't exist

Restoration process complete!
Congratulations! Your database backup has been restored successfully.

Attempt to fix the database's paths for this server.

Upon going back into my forum there is stil no change

I have just tried again to upload the db...it seemed to work..went into repair_settings and i now have this:

Notice: Undefined variable: attempt in /homepages/23/d105058700/htdocs/repair_settings.php on line 325

Some settings are not being shown because the MySQL connection information is incorrect.

None of the values have been found and it says this at the bottom:

Settings.php cannot be written to by your webserver. Please modify the permissions on this file to allow write access.

Can someone please help me here...so i can then install TP (correctly heh) and get my forum back up and running.

Any help be appreciated, thx :)

Sometimes (I've had it happen) with larger databases, you need to split them up to load them.

Maviarab

database i want to import is 2.1mb...and "apparently" under 2.4 should be ok???

I wil try that anyway though..thx

Maviarab

ok...finally got the db imported...ran repair_settings.php but when i go to the forum url i get this error msg

Table 'db166154744.settings' doesn't exist

Anyone shed some light on this please?

gerrymo

Check through phpmyadmin to see if it does. If its not there at all, you can search through your database back up on you local PC, split that part out, and upload it. Then run repair_settings.php again.

oh dear :( i feel like a 5 year olfd playing with his dads toys and not understanding how any of it works :(

Ok...if i use the phpmyadmin i uploaded i get this error

Error
MySQL said:

#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)

is this casuing a problem also??

if its not and I use the built in phpmyadmin from my host...may i ask in my novicity (new word hmm) how i check its there in phpmyadmin and if not how i find it (then split it) in the db on my drive?

Apologies for all the what may be silly questions to yourselves.

G6Cad

Non of the questions are silly if you dont know the answer, like me here to with your question, I have no idea at all. But i know that when I get some faliure in my DB, i contact my host and they help me fix it, it's their job as a host ;)

So contact them, sennd the DB backupfile to them and ask them to set it up for you.  :)

Maviarab

Thx again G6 (gonna hot key that reply heh)

That seems a good idea in all fairness, ive been on this for 3 days noww...tearing my hair out and crying myself to sleep time almost :(

Will ciontact them and see if they can figure out why its being do damn complictaed (more than it should be) and get back to you with the results when i hear from them :)

Thx for all who have racked their brains on this one for me :)

Maviarab

Well..I've fiixed it  ;D

It appears that the old db prefix was causing the problem...it would seem that 1&1 just dont like prefixes on the db.

Once this was removed the forum sorta came back...a bit more fiddling around later changing paths from old server and settings etc etc and then running repair_settings.php has her back to her old glory :)

Uploaded phpmyadmin still refuses to work but for now im not too worried about that lol...im happy she back.

Thx again for all those who suggested advice
