What have you installed when this happend. I suggest you do a virus scan and a spybot search if possible and see if  you got any sneaky program installed with out you knowing it.

Or try to put a CD in to it and reebot.

Sounds like a virus or a Trojan to me bud.  You haven't had any pop ups offering you a free cup holder have you? lol  ::)

You can try uninstalling it through the device manager to see if that stops it until you are done scanning for the bad stuff.

Right click my computer, choose properties, then click the hardware tab. Then push the Device Manager button. Expand DVD/CD-Rom drives title. Rightclick your DVD/CD-Rom and uninstall. :)

A simple reboot after your done should reinstall it.

or re-install windows? anyway whichever way i hope your pc gets better, and hopefully uv backed everything up - dont know who invented viruses :(

If it's buggin you too much, you could always get someone to pop the side panel and pull the power lead off it. Not fix, but at least it will stop. (Just make sure you get the cable back on before taking it to the shop for repair/exchange)

I find it hard to believe that you are having a virus problem, however it does sound like maybe you are having a hardware problem. This happened to my daughter’s computer sometime back and we ended up having to replace the drive. There is a way of checking your drive to find out if it is the problem or not. If you are using two drives with your system you must first uninstall both of your cd drives, from your device manager, once you have done this, then shut the computer off, don’t restart completely shut it off. Once this is done the next step is kind of a pain but it will tell you what is wrong.

Take a look at both tape that connect to your drives and if you have two of them switch them, the upper one on the bottom and the lower one on the top. If you do this, then your next step is to restart the computer and see what happens.

If you are only running one drive, disconnect your tape from the drive while leaving it with the power, power up your computer and see if the tray goes in and out.

Another way to find out if it is a problem with your hardware, this is a very easy thing to do, remove the disk from your computer, and open the top and check to see if the disk is free from any dust and dirt of any kind. By inspecting these areas and using compressed air you might be able to clean the contacts, before doing anything that I mentioned about I would clean it first. I believe but am not sure, that you have a sticky connection in your release button. Good luck.

Does everyone see the IP address? or just you and me?
