Can't change colors

SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC2
I am trying to change to color on my theme but I have to use Frontpage or Notepad but when I upload the saved sheet it stays the same.
Why?

(I also can't edit it in the Admin panel as there is an error)

So you are editing the style.css correct?
And if so are you saving/uploading it as style.css?
Are you overwriting your old style.css
Where are you uploading it to.

What is it supposed to look like. I mean it looks edited.

And if you use notepad then just save it as "style.css".
And when you upload make sure to put it in your themes folder.

Why?

Possibly because you are viewing a cached page. Try Ctrl+F5 a few times to force a reload from the server.
