Changing a mindset to accept that SMF will remain free is a difficult task. Most folks do not know why it is free to begin with. Also understanding the concept of user based community support is missing with many other programs IMHO.

Tiny Portal > V-Bulletin + phpNUKE + mambo Open Source + their little dog too. ;)

Tiny Portal pwns.  period.

As a web-designer and host I can honestly and fairly say that TP beats out every other forums or portal in terms of power and efficiency.  It works.  Its got a load of great templates.  The Style Sheets are very easy to modify through the admin panel, the forums are secure and extremely scalable.  It offers the ability to post with FLASH, features everything else any other board has, and more.

The best part?  Its n00b friendly.  Before TP I could not even DREAM of handing a portal site over to a client to manage on their own.  With Tiny Portal, I can install it slap on a theme or two and the client is off and running on their own.

TP is more powerful than v-bulletin and doesn't require a Magic 8-Ball to configure. ;)

TP is the way of the future.

I really don’t know, I have said this many times before in here and I am very new, but I have worked with a lot of forum programs, and have spent hours trying to figure out ways of improving it, and when I came across SMF I was very surprised to find that everything I wanted was built into on package, which really was a nice feat, and saved a lot of time.

I don’t expect everything to be free, and don’t expect anyone to really work for free, because when it comes to my work, I get paid for my job, so why shouldn’t everyone else. When I was trying to get my nuke site working, oh my God!!! You can’t believe the time I spent searching and waiting for answers, I am also sure that some of you already know how many websites that are that support nuke, and there is something for everyone in there, but in here, you know what you are getting and you don’t have to be an rocket scientist to install anything, however sometimes you might have to change some things, but nothing to heavy.

The people here are nice for a change, they don’t scream at you saying to read the how to install files, and so on, so as far as I am concerned, you have my vote.

Between you guys and me, my buddy can keep his Vbulletins and say anything he wants about SMF and TP, My forum is working great, and I am learning a lot faster in here then I ever would have in the nuke world.

TP @ phpNUKE:  "I am the bigga and the stronga of all the girlie-portals!  Yaaahh."

phpNUKE is n00bish, IMO.  It looks like crap.  It works like crap, and I really loathe logging into one.  Often times it resembles a macaroni-craft project.  I'd prefer frame-sets over phpNUKE. :P

TP's blocks are very easy to manage, and offer all the features of nuke.  Its simply a matter of adding in all the snippets you want to add in.

TP's themes are better too.  And if you want to, you can easily edit the style .css to make ur own Theme from the floor up.

Oh, and did I mention that v-Bulletin, next to phpBB2 has the most well known hacks and exploits?

So u pay for a inferior product, only to get your boards taken to the cleaners.  Its style is very blocky.  All its themes still look blocky, even when they change the style.

If ur gonna PAY for a forums, I would look at Invision Board.  But then you will think: WHY PAY?!

TP > ALL

TwinsX2Dad

If he'd been talking to me, I'd have pushed him to IPB, not vB. So there!

Have you seen the latest comments?

Anyway..... where did Nuke come in? That is for people who want high server loads and messy code. ANYTHING is better than Nuke.

O0 "ATTT"

I just made that one up so I will claim it.  Ain't That The Truth.

TwinsX2Dad

Cool - maybe we need a forum on acronyms? Or we could all benefit from this free site:  http://www.acronymfinder.com/

AFAIK has been around since the early eighties.

And the Acronym Finder tells us that ATTT =

  • Association of Tourism Teachers and Trainers
  • American Telephone and Telegraph Technologies

The second one is copyrighted.   ;D

Well ain't that a kick in the pants.  I was getting ready to copyright that.

Did you hear about Paris Hilton wanting to copyright the term "That's Hot"?  What a crock of salad.
