If it is a fresh install, I am not sure why we're doing manual. It should have been simpler to have uploaded to your package directory, then installed with the package manager. You shouldn't have to do manual installs until you have a couple of mods already done.

I get about 4 hours of sleep per day - if I didn't knock off when I did, you certainly wouldn't want me helping you install anything....

You don't sleep alot.. Yes it's a brand new install, no mods no nothing, brand new forum.. I just want TP to work with it.

beemer your forum is exactly what I'm looking for! How can I PM you?

I'm accessing from a remote server, I didn't know you could actually install things on ftp. I opened the "1139149106manual_tp_install" file in my directory and it came up with a screen saying 'TinyPortalÂÃ,´s table structure is now installed/updated.' I don't know if that means it worked or not.. I'm doing the coding thing but it's so tedious. You have anything where I can just copy and paste the index, I haven't installed anything in smf, this is brand new install. I tried before and got syntax errors..

Jeez AHHHH!!!!!!  :-\

I know it's frustrating but it worked for me in the end.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!!! MUTTLY, G6, BEEMER, TWINX2DAD, ICHBIN!!!!!!!!! IF IT WASN'T FOR THIS SUPPORT FORUM I'D HAVE GIVEN UP!!!!!!!!!!  ;D So I took a mishmash of what everyone suggested and this is what I did, for complete beginners non-techies who've never installed a forum.

1. Instead of installing through fantastico cpanel, I firstly downloaded the 'SMF 1.1.rc2 install' .zip file from the simplemachines website http://www.simplemachines.org/download/ to my desktop. I made a newfolder with the name smf and extracted the .zip file into it.

2. I went to my ftp site, under public_html folder I made a new folder with the name smf and dragged the contents on the desktop smf folder into the ftp one. (This took a lot of time and sometimes it times out which you drag files individually etc. basically get all of that in there).

3. I used IchBin's instructions, they were so detailed! I lost the link though.. Where once everythings uploaded, open another browser and put www.yourforum.com/smf/install.php magically there comes a screen where you follow instructions. For username and password I used my ftp login but in terms of the bottom bit where you get sql all sorts of wierd thing, you go to your cpanel, open up mysql and there should be a button there to make new db (database), use that new database name to fill in details on bottom bit. (Look for IchBin's instructions in simplemachines website.. it was invaluable but I lost it).

4. Then you fill in details like your forum name, login name etc and then it should say everything was installed succesfully. Open another browser, it should be under www.yourforum.com/smf or whichever file you put it under (if there's errors in opening then that's because the files weren't uploaded properly onto ftp, so whichever file the error is referring to, you upload it and check make sure all files are there) login to admin section.

5. Download TP from this website, on the left hand side there's a module, downloads button or press this link http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=cat5 download the .zip file TinyPortal 0.8.6v to your desktop.

6. In your admin section of your forum, upload the .zip file and follow the instructions and it should be installed.

Voila! I LUV SIMPLE MACHINES!!!!!!!!!! THANK-YOU EVERYONE FOR THE SUPPORT!!!!!!!

 ;D ;)  :2funny:

For some reason I originally missed this - it is possible your Fantastico install was either modified, out of date or corrupted.....

If I'd realized this, I'd have taken a bit different tack and you might have been up sooner.

Thank you laetababy for the instruktions on how you fixed it with "help" from your cpanel, this can be usefull for others who run into the same problem when it's not working through the whole installation. :)

 :tickedoff: BIG PROBLEM!!!

I CANNOT GET TP INSTALLED PROPERLY ON SMF 1.0.5 OR the new 1.0.7

I tried installing TP tonight, and I know its a problem because I successfully installed a new version of TP on a new site on 1.0.6 just this week!

NOw I tried installing on 2 new websites with SMF 1.0.7 and NOTHING WORKS.  I have tried modifying the XML-Info file as suggested.  I have tried manual installs, I have tried praying to the volcano gods and sacrifcing a LAMB.  I have tried banging my head against the screen, I have tried voodoo magic.

O0 NOTHING WORKS.  None of the suggestions here work for me.

I make sure TP THemes are installed before hand so I can see the new changes, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling on a FRESH SMF Install 1.0.5.

I have changed permissions like a mad man, and I have about lost my mind tonight  :uglystupid2: :uglystupid2:

:-\ SOMEONE PLEASE HELP.  I need a stable solution.  I have 2 fresh installs of SMF 1.0.7 just waiting for a fresh attempt.
