Hi Mick,
I had to get some sleep, so just got back.  I got your PM on my forum, and I'll be doing the test you suggested.  I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks  :)

illori

seems a bit odd to me... your host even if they are upgrading your SMF and TP should not have touched the database, so the settings you had should have still been in place.

i would at this point ask them to restore the backup before they touched anything and ask someone familiar with SMF to help you upgrade.

brynn

Oh, I think my host is very familiar with SMF -- he's had SMF boards with TP too, and that's why he recommended it for me.  I have no doubt he knows what he's doing -- even if I can't explain it exactly right.

I don't know if he touched the db or not.  (Edit #2 - The settings are still in place.  I thought they weren't, because of the different appearance.  But after I found and checked, they are still the same.)

He did try to go back and install version 1.107, but it won't work, because it's not compatible with Query String.php.  Mick said that's a known problem.

Mick suggested to me, via PM on my forum, to set up a new block with the same settings.  He was thinking maybe if I make all the blocks new, it might fix.

But I just tried that, and it didn't work.  The new block behaves just like all the old blocks.

http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?action=forum  That test search block in the left panel is the new one.  But if you look in any or all of the boards, you can see it's showing there too.

I think guests aren't able to see the blocks though.  I'll change that right now, in case anyone else wants to help.

Edit
Oh ok.  Guests aren't able to see ALL the blocks.  But they can see and use the Search block on the right panel.  So we can use the new search block in the left panel for the new test block and the old search block on the right panel as an example of the old blocks.

(Since you have to set the visibility for each block, it's going to be a pain to make them all visible for guests.)(And fix again later.)

Brynn, switch me to admin for a minute or two and I'll see if there's anything obvious.

when your host finished their stuff, did any of your existing TP settings/articles etc appear? it sounds like your host removed all the settings as after you uninstall/upgrade/install TP it should still use the settings that existed before. so if you had it already set to not show the panels on the forum it should still do that.

brynn

Sorry, you guys are so fast!

I don't think he touched the db, although I don't really know.  But the settings are the same as they were.  At first I thought they weren't because of the change in appearance with the blocks appearing where they shouldn't be.  But the settings are all the same.

And the new block is behaving like all the old blocks.

I'll switch Mick to admin for a minute.

I don't know how much this will help.  But the blocks are appearing on some pages, and not on others.  Should only be on index page.  But maybe something about which pages are "broken" and which aren't can  help.

So I just noticed the blocks are showing on Who's Online page.  Also the Contact page.  But not in the admin areas, and not on Members tab (page).

If you look now that new test search block is only appearing on the forum index, not when viewing posts etc. Is that what you wanted?

brynn

Did you do something?  I did see the new test block somewhere besides the index page.....  Now I can't remember which page.

Oh ok, well maybe that will fix it.  So I should just make all new blocks?
