Hi Friends,
I am such a newbie!  To the best of my understanding, it seems like the TP Shout Box would be a problem with TP rather than SMF.  But if I'm wrong, let me know, and I'll be off to the SMF forum  :)

The Shout Box is showing an error, and I don't know where to start to fix it.  I'm really weak on PHP. The forum is usually in Maintenance Mode, since I'm not ready to accept new members yet.  But I'll take it out of maintenance mode, until someone replies, and/or until the problem is fixed.

It's in the Top Panel block, under the Block title "Say what?"

Link to my forum: forum dot inkscapecommunity dot com slash index dot php?action=forum
SMF version: 2.04
TP version: 1.107
Default Forum Language: English
Theme name and version: Aqua Style 2.0 (custom dot simplemachines dot org slash themes slash index dot php?lemma=2631)
Browser Name and Version: Firefox 20.0.1
Mods installed: in addition to TP:
Enhanced Dropdown
More Spiders
Forum Firewall
DevCenter
Intergrated Hooks Report
No Temp Dir Removal
Extended Help
Sorted Package Manager Listing
Stop Spammer
Simple Colorizer

Related Error messages: This error shows in Shout Box:

"Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING, expecting ']' in /home/brynn/public_html/forum/Themes/default/TPsubs.template.php(127) : eval()'d code on line 6"

I have several other languages installed, but I may not have everything set properly to use them, yet.  If I change TP Admin > General Settings > Use languabe visibility options for blocks? from No to Yes, most of the blocks disappear.  So either there's some incompatilibity with languages somewhere, or I've got something configured wrong.  At least that's my best guess.

For the Shout Box block (Top Panel) in the Block Edit area, all the Languages are unchecked.  It doesn't seem to matter whether they are checked or not, as far as the blocks disappearing.  But I'm in a serious learning mode, so I could just be confused about that, or something.

I do see some shout box mods listed in SMF Mods Site.  I wonder if I'm supposed to install one of those?  If so, does it matter which?

Let me know if you need any further info.  Thank you very much  :)

Hi Brynn, welcome to TinyPortal!

I can't see anything on your site as a guest. No blocks or anything. The error you posted indicates that you have a custom PHP block with some code in it that has an error. PHP blocks run all their code through an eval() function. If eval() finds an error it will often cause errors on the page.

The languages issue can be a little hard to understand. But if you enabled the language visibility options for a blocks, no blocks will appear for any other languages until you go into each block and enabled the languages you want the block to appear for.

You don't need to use any other shoutbox mod unless you don't like the tinyportal one.

Post back if you still have problems or questions.

Oh, sorry about that.  If you need to see the forum....wait....no.  Guests should be able to see the forum.  They can't post, but they should be able to see it.  At least that's how I thought it was set up.  But you still wouldn't be able to see anything but the error code that I posted.

Does that mean I don't have it set up properly for the shout box?  Or does that mean that it's set up properly, but giving an error.  How do I fix the error?  How do I get the shout box to work?

Well, I didn't mean to ask for support about the language issue.  I only mentioned it because I thought I had some misunderstanding about it that might be affecting the shout box error.  But thanks for the info, and I'll check on those options.

My main goal in posting is to get the shout box to work.

Thanks again  :)

hmm, was going to take a look for you, but.  "Forum is in Maintenance Mode. Please be patient. We'll be back as soon as we can"

brynn

Sorry about that.  Since IchBin said he couldn't see it anyway, I went back to Maint. Mode.  But I've just put back to regular mode, in case you can help.  Thanks  :)

No problem.  Just registered so I can take a look. No confirmation email as yet though. ;)

I probably haven't looked closely at registration....oh wait, I know....  Ok, you should be able to sign in now.  Although again, even as a member, I don't think you'll be able to see more than the same error message.  But !

Thanks.brynn  Switch me to admin for a minute, I'll see if I can spot anything.

brynn

I appreciate the offer, but I'd rather not do that.  But if you can tell me what to look for and where to look, I'm pretty good at following instructions.

lurkalot

OK brynn, I can understand your reluctance to give admin permissions to a stranger, but I'm on the support team here.  ;)

OK do me a favour and turn off the mini calendar block please.
