I get the following error when loading up my site the first time. It shows at the very top

Default Forum Language: English (US)
Theme name and version: Happens with each theme including default
Browser Name and Version: Error occurs with IE and chrome
Mods installed: none
Related Error messages: Warning: ob_start() [ref.outcontrol]: output handler 'ob_gzhandler' cannot be used after 'URL-Rewriter' in /home/content/25/7939025/html/test/smf/index.php on line 97

Sounds like you have a mod or something causing the problem. You have a pretty URL or SEO mod installed? I'd guess that is your problem.

I only had gallery lite installed. No other mods.

I recently installed a mod and uninstalled it screwed up the default theme I have to replace that.  The above error was before the mods I had installed recently.  I can't say 100% if it was before gallery or not.I will search there as well for the error and see if that reveals anything.

GZ handler has something to do with the engine that is installed on the server that manage images from ie gallery mod.
So it could pretty much be the gallery lite mod is still causing problems in your forum.
