I am thinking about picking up TP to use with my site. Can you tell me what I can expect when I install it? Is it hard or easy? Will it put an undue load on my site? Is there any worry in using the beta version or can I get a full version?

Any input would be appreciated.

well it is very easy as long as you don't have the wrong modss. If you do then you will get some errors but it isn't hard to fix them. There isnt any noticed load increase in using it. it might take one or two extra queries but thats about it. The guy who codes it knows what he is doing. Its too bad you can get treated so poorly as a newbie here tho. watch out for eldocar. she is on some power trip.

If you tell us here
What version of  SMF you currently use?
What mods installed?

Then we can advise better
Installation is a doddle

SMF with Tinyportal are pretty easy to use. Im not good at codes or homepaging at all, but i really feel that I manage most of it myselfe now :)

TinyPortal is a mod itselfe to SMF forum, so thats why itÂÃ,´s better to make that install to the SMF first, before you implent other modifications you want to have.
I guess "bad" mods are those you really not have any use for in your forum, but whats good for one, isent good for another, so that you know best your self.

In tiny portl you have pretty much the basic allround mods implented. Downloadmanager, blocks for use with codesnippets without alter the base code. You can create almost anything in those blocks really easy with a block manager thats builded in TinyPortal.

An then you have Articles and frontpaging for a more "homepage" looks of the forum.

There are simply a lot of diffrent way to use Tiny Portal, and most of them are really easy to use or learn how to use.
And for the best of it, there are good support to TinyPortal so IF you run into any wrongs, you will get all the help needed and often pretty fast to.

Hope you will try it out :)

Maybe when the product and the support people have all matured I might be back, but until then, I will install something else.

Please understand, if you don't already, that TP isn't even out of beta, yet. AFAIK, Bloc specifically says to not use it for live sites that need something stable and final. If that's what you need it for, it's recommended that you don't use it, yet.

It might be simpler to understand if I were to show the PM I just got. But I probably shouldn't, as that would only cause more problems.

Suffice it to say that in his last PM to me, PJ says he won't be back.

Tp MAY be beta, but i am currently using it on 3 live sites, and have had absolutely no downtime caused by tp that isn't negligible. by negligible, i mean under 10 minutes. if you believe the support is shoddy, you need to learn to use the search feature, as the answer to almost every problem that has occurred with tinyportal is on this forum.
i'm not saying there are no bugs, because there are, as it's beta. but there are very few that will actually damage your forum, and a very small amount of people actually experienced downtime because of tp. almost all of them have a fix or workaround here on the site.
