Guys I been getting a lot of errors for some reason and I don't know why. I did a search for this with 0 results. Can some one tell me how to fix this.

You need to upgrade your SMF install iceman. You are behind on several security fixes that have been made since RC5 for SMF.

Aside from that, you need to turn off template evaluation. There is an option in SMF2 for this in the server settings page I believe. After you've turned template eval off, you need to clear your log and then let the error happen again. Once the error comes again, you should see a different line number and file name, because TPShout.php is not where the error is actually occurring. You'll likely want to post your error at SMF because it is not a TP error that I can tell.

Thanks Icebin, How ever because of the problems I had before doing updates for SMF. I won't do it again. Last time I tried to update SMF, I lost every thing and had to start from scratch. I been working and building on this for 2 1/2 years so I don't have any plans at all for updating until SMF has an option to update my forums with out me having to lose my Installed packages, The other problem is that these packages don't support SMF 2.0.2 any way.

and 2nd. and I did that and I'm just wanting for it to error out again.

Well don't be surprised if your forum gets hacked. As for losing all your stuff, did you not backup? Having a backup of your files and database would allow you to restore right back to where you started without losing anything.

As for SMF giving you a way to upgrade without losing your packages, that will probably never happen with beta's and RC's. But is completely possible when you are using 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2. Once a version of SMF has gone final, all future updates of that version will be patches that shouldn't remove your mods/packages.

Anyway, good luck on the error hunt. If I remember right, that label error has something to do with the menu. I think I've seen it posted about before on the SMF site.

Yes and I backup every thing. You all so have to remember that if your updating. The back up won't work on your updated board.

And if my board gets hacked. There's no one to blame other the SMF.

Why wouldn't it work? You are replacing the database and files back to the previous version. There's no reason a complete backup should not work if you updated your board and it didn't work.

If your board gets hacked after security issues have been released and you don't update your board, you are going to blame SMF? That just seems wrong to me. They've fixed the issue and you have chosen not to update. I don't see why SMF would be to blame.

Anyway, I'm not hear to harp on you about that. Just wanted to make sure you knew that you should update. If you can't get over some problems because of that, that's a different story I suppose. :)

iceman11a

Ok, well as you know SMF releases a new update all most all the time. Why I fix bugs and security holes and crap like that. So you mean to tell me that SMF 2.0 RC5 isn't stable. If's it's not. then it shouldn't have been released.

and your not getting the idea. of backing up. Yes the backups and every thing worked just fine. That's not the problem. The problem is completing the update so that I can get protected. The idea is that I can't import the old data into the new DB because DB tables and fields get changed and this doesn't all ways work.  No matter what I did. I would still have to start from scratch.

The last problem is that more then likely the packages I have installed all ready won't work in the newer version because of the DB changes. That means losing every thing I spent 2 years putting together.

The idea is to update my SMF with out making any changes to the database tables and fields. Until SMF has a option added to the updater to made all required changes and not to delete or remove any thing. Then it should be just fine. How ever I don't see that happening in the near future.

The whole reason to have beta's and release candidates (RC's) is because things aren't considered stable yet. It puts the software out there for those that are willing to try it so that bugs can be discovered and fixed before the final stable build is released. This is the way pretty much every software group I've ever dealt with does it. It even says that in the SMF announcements for those releases, that it shouldn't be used on a production site for that very reason.

Updates between RC versions will never have patches like the final versions do. It's not worth the development time to do this when so many changes will happen between beta's and RC's.

As for your mods not being updated problem, that's something to consider before jumping into a RC version for SMF. However, IIRC the differences between RC5 and final are very minimal. No database changes that I can recall. I'd bet that if you used version emulate you could get most of your mods working with 2.0 final if the mod worked in RC5.

Icebin, I didn't get that label error. How ever I did get this error and I have no idea on how to fix this or where the guest tried to access this from or what page.
