I had SMF 1.1.14 and TinyPortal 1.083 working together beautifully. I loved it. I realized the security issues I had with both versions so I decided to upgrade. I upgraded to SMF 2.0 and know I have lost TinyPortal. I can see TinyPortal in SMF Package Manager but I can't install it. I obviously need update TinyPortal also. What is the best way forward from here?

I downloaded tp_upgrade.php from here: http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=34150.0

I ran that and everything seemed to go without a hitch but I'm not sure where to go from there. It didn't actually seem to change anything on my end but it DID run and modify a few things (according to the screen).

I'd appreciate any advice on the easiest path forward to upgrade AND maintain what I have already created the in previous version!

Thanks!

Any time you upgrade from a major version of SMF like that, you lose all mods. You simply need to install the mods you previously had installed. If they do not have an install link in the admin package manager, you need to upload an updated version of the mod assuming they have one. The latest TP has been updated if you choose to use it. There are several errors in it which I've posted fixes for on this board until I'm able to release the next version.

Thank you for the reply. I'm fairly new to all this and this is my first major upgrade so I just wanted to take the easiest route possible. Is there anything to keep in mind when doing the TP install to save some of the setup from the last TP install?

Shadow

Yes, TP have everything you have before the upgrade will be still there. You just need to install TP again. When you upgrade your forum.

All of your TP settings and blocks should still be there after the upgrade, if you're lucky they will still work just fine.  Some blocks depending on type, might need adjusting to work with SMF2.

Basically, if the site plays up, and home page etc displays strangely after the install, you'll need to start turning some of your blocks off until you find the block/s causing the problem, and then ether replace the code for the new version if they are available, or seek help with them in the snippets boards.

Hope it goes well for you.  ;)

May I suggest deleting any old mods from Packages before installing your new mods for SMF 2. When install the new versions you will have multiple copies of the mods in Packages (although the old ones are not installed). Deleting the old ones from Packages will be less confusing later on. ;)

I installed the mod.I am now running TP 1.104. It went fairly smooth and MOST of my content came back just fine.

I have two issues though. First is that I am missing many icon images. Here's a screen shot of what I'm talking about:

I know I can manually copy those images from the package to my server but I'm wondering if that is a sign of more things that are missing that I haven't noticed yet. Is this a common problem? (search tells me it isn't but maybe I'm not searching the correct words.)

Second issue is that I can't get my featured article to show up on the front page for the life of me! I've tried everything that I know of. I have created additional articles as tests to see if they would show up and I'm simply having no luck. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

The site is straightstack dot com if it would help to look at what I have.

You are missing images from the TP zip files. Since some of the images are missing you might want to upload all TP files just to be sure that you do not have to come back here someone else tells you to upload more files. LOL Please check you permissions on the server for your files and folders before uploading.

Extract the zip file to a folder on your hard drive then upload everything within the /common folder to your server. Then upload the 3 folders in the /SMF2 folder to your server.

Do not upload the /common and /SMF2 folder names...just the folders within them as well as their files. Also do not upload 3 files you see in the root folder of /SMF2.

This should make sure you have all files needed to run TP. This will not install any code edits to SMF.

Life is GOOOD! Thanks for the help. I uploaded all the files and it fixed not only my missing icons but also my problem with getting the article on the main page! Thanks again!

Now, I didn't see your post about deleting old mods until AFTER I'd already install the new ones. Should I still delete or would that make matters worse? Thanks!

Not a problem. You can delete the old mods since they would not work anyways. ;)

Just make sure that you delete the correct ones or you'll have problems uninstalling them later. LOL
