Hi...

I've set up a site where I've got a set of menus in the upper layout. 5 menus, 20% of the center column. Looks great.

I've got those menus set to display on all pages (except the forum).

Now, my articles on the front page display ok. Until I click on them (say to make a comment on the article). I also get a problem when trying to link to an article using one of the menus.

From what I can tell, this is because it's trying to display those articles in the upper layout, which is already occupied (I've displayed 4 of the menus and tested it, and the page shows up, so it seems logical).

Basically I get a really long page if all the menus are enabled, and that is because it's trying to squeeze the page into 0 pixels. Not going to work.

How do I change the target location of the menu article link, and the target of clicking on an article on the front page to make a comment?

Thanks.

IchBin

Sorry, but I do not understand your explanation. Can you post some Screen Shots or links so I can see what you are talking about? I only see 1 menu when I go to your site. If I click on the article in that menu, it displays the article just fine for me.

rhinosaurus

Right, but when you click on it, it's displaying it BESIDE the menu, instead of below it like the frontpage articles.

The same thing happens if you click on the article in the front page as if to comment on it, it posts the comment view beside the menus, instead of in the same level of the layout.

Basically if I put five menus in that upper layout, and then you click on the "rules and regulations" you aren't going to see anything, because the menus already take up all that space.

I'll see if I can post some screens.

IchBin

Ah I see what you are talking about. Does it do the same thing when you view it in the default SMF curve theme?

rhinosaurus

So this is the frontpage. You'll see the menu is above the article. What I'd like to do is have five menus occupying that space all time.

Unfortunately I can't, because whenever I view an article to comment, or view an article from the menu (see third photo), it places it in the same layout the menus are, instead of the main layout below them. I can't figure how to change this.

rhinosaurus

Yes, it does it on all themes, including the default and the core theme.

IchBin

Thanks, I'll have to do some testing to see why and what I can do to fix it. In the mean time, have you tried the top panel instead of the upper panel to see if it behaves the same way? If I figure it out I'll post back. Gonna put this in the bug tracker for now.

rhinosaurus

I hadn't tried it in the top panel since I was trying to keep everything clean and in-line, but I can test it for bug tracking purposes.

rhinosaurus

all menus in top panel:

1 menu in upper panel to show that even if the link is in top panel, it's still pushing it into the upper panel slot:

It looks like it's targeting that area intentionally, because it does it no matter where I put the menu with that link (e.g. left panel, right panel) - it still puts the article in the same spot.

IchBin

Link placement doesn't matter. The blocks and articles are loaded through different layers in the page. Looks like there is some type of adjustment that needs to be made to the upper/top panel layers. I don't know what yet, but will look into it as soon as possible.
