Sorry, you are not allowed to view this article.

Every time I try to make any changes to categories or make an article I get this error. I read somewhere here about an issue with the language setting, that English UTF-8 would cause issues. I changed the language to English instead of English UTF-8, the language errors stopped but now i get errors in the logs like this below, and I still get the "you are not allowed to view this article" message.

8: Undefined index: custom_copyright
File: /home/theslot1/public_html/jasper/Themes/default/languages/TPShout.english.php (main_below sub template - eval?)
Line: 647

8: Undefined index: rightbar
File: /home/theslot1/public_html/jasper/Themes/default/languages/TPShout.english.php (main_below sub template - eval?)
Line: 624

8: Undefined index: centerbar
File: /home/theslot1/public_html/jasper/Themes/default/languages/TPShout.english.php (main_above sub template - eval?)
Line: 610

Have I missed somethere somewhere? This is a brand new install

Hi Dolm,

Welcome to the TP Support site.

The error concerning the "you are not allowed to view this article" bit is a reported bug that has already been fixed for the next release of TinyPortal.  Here's a link to the issue if you want to read it --> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?issue=61.0

I don't know what the "Undefined index: custom_copyright" error is as I've never seen it.  Perhaps if you disable Template Evaluation, it will give you a different error.  Do you know how to do that?

As for the other 2 errors, those indicate that you are using a theme that was originally designed to work with TinyPortal version 0.98.  If you switch to a more modern theme that doesn't have the TinyPortal calls in it, those errors will go away.

Dolm

Does that mean its broken until a new release, or there is a new release that has fixed this?

I don't know how to disable template evaluation, I've only just started using SMF, guess I can google that :)

ZarPrime

Yes, you will have to wait for the next release (TP 1.0 RC2) unless Ichbin sees this and can tell you how to fix it yourself.  For bugs, he will often do this if the fix isn't too extensive but I don't see a fix for it at this time.  Otherwise, you will have to wait until RC2 is released.  It shouldn't be too long.

There is an SMF Mod that you can install on your site that will allow you to disable template eval.  The link to it is here --> http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2054

Finally, look in your Package Manager and see if you have a Mod installed called "Custom Copyright".  That Mod uses that variable called "custom_copyright" and that could be causing a conflict with the Shoutbox, especially if it has not been updated for your version of SMF.  You may have to post in the topic on SMF for that Mod about this.

Dolm

Thanks ZarPrime. I tried the disable template eval mod, it didnt stop the errors. I'll keep looking for the cause.

ZarPrime

Please bear in mind that, after you install the Mod, you will then need to go into Admin --> Server Settings --> Feature Configuration to actually disable it.  Also, in case you didn't understand what I said earlier, the "rightbar" and "centerbar" errors are caused by the theme you are using.  If you switch your Forum to the default SMF theme (?theme=1) those errors will go away.

If you want to keep using the theme you are currently using, you should ask the author of the theme if they have a non-TP version of it.  Otherwise, you could switch to a newer theme.  TinyPortal no longer requires theme edits (except for adding a Forum button if you want one).  Adding the Forum button is only needed if you are using SMF 1.1.13.  It's not required for SMF 2.0

ZarPrime

Edit:  Also, let me say one other thing.  You didn't answer my question as to whether you are using the "Custom Copyright" Mod.  We can't really troubleshoot that Mod for you if you have it installed because it's not our Mod but, depending on how you upgraded your Forum to SMF 1.1.13, some of the files that Mod modifies could have become changed.  From reading this post on SMF that I have linked below, I can see that one of the edits that this Mod makes is to edit the language strings in the languages/Modifications.english.php file, as follows ...

$txt['custom_copyright_desc'] = 'This will be displayed at the bottom.';
$txt['custom_copyright'] = 'Enter custom copyright:';

If those language strings are missing from that file, you will get that error.  Here is the link to that post on SMF --> http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=253713.msg2693322#msg2693322

Dolm

ZarPrime,

The only mods installed are

TinyPortal 1.103
DisableTemplateEval 1.2
Aeva Media 1.4

==================

I just realized i had ApolloBB-TP installed, didnt realize there was a TP version and Non-TP version. I removed it and installed the regular theme and entered some text on the themese custom logo field (no option to disable) and all the issues stopped. I can also submit articles without getting the error "Sorry, you are not allowed to view this article."  Looks like the theme itsself was the majority of the issues.

Many thanks ZarPrime

ZarPrime

Ahhh, well, very cool. ;) I'm glad you were able to solve all the issues.  I'll go ahead and mark this topic solved then O0 and if you have any other issues with TinyPortal, feel free to start a new topic.
