Hide article category?

I'm trying to make a featured article for my frontpage, and make it permanent, but not look like your standard article. In fact, a lot of my articles would benefit from this. Is there any way to remove the "posted in <category>" from the top of articles...at least on the front page?

I've combed through every setting and am about to pull my hair out lol.

That is why there is the custom option for frontpage display called "Use custom template". You can modify that code to suit your custom display. Otherwise, you have to manually edit the code in the TP files.

Not that I know of. It's pretty simple to understand. You just remove the parts or change the HTML to fit what you want.

I removed this  {article_category} from the section below, and checked "Use custom template"

That part should remove the category from the bar at the top. Go a little further down in the code and you'll see the spot that will remove the text for the category for the actual post or article. It's working for me on both SMF1 and SMF2 in the latest release of TP.

I actually assumed that would work, but it was going to be a last resort...if there was a pre-built feature or way to do it I would've preferred that over customizing code.

There is no way that TinyPortal could have a "Layout Type" for everything that a user might want to do on their site.  This is exactly why there is a custom layout type and this is a perfect use for it.  Topic marked solved.

I had one guy that I helped a long time ago that wanted a complete custom layout. He wanted each article with a special graphic border and stuff. The custom layout option sure made it nice and easy to fix it up for him.

It would be nice to have a help file with at least a list of tags you can use.
