TP admin panels timing out (those that refer tinyportal.net)

SMF version: 1.0.12
TP version: TinyPortal v1.0 beta 4

The "Blocks and panels" section and "News and credits" section in TP admin time out and give me a 500 internal error most of the time. Other times it loads for a few minutes and then displays properly.

I'm assuming it has something to do with pulling information from tinyportal.net, which those sections do.

Any help would be much appreciated.

EDIT: This may have something to do with it : http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=409479.0

Not 100% certain, but I am pretty sure TP does not pull any information from any other website.  And if that was the problem, I don't think it would give you a 500, I'd assume the error would be handled in the script, like in the news from smf. Have you checked the server logs to see if you logging any errors?  500 is supposed to write to the server logs a more detailed description so you should see something there.

No, that has nothing to do with it.  I just checked my own site, no errors.

Ok, I stand (partially) corrected, I looked at an older install of TP running TP 1 beta 3, and it does in fact give me an error 500, and on the page it says,
QuoteAn Error Has Occurred!
Sorry, you aren't allowed to fetch news.

IIRC, it has always done this, and there is no timeout, the page comes up instantly, or at least as fast if not faster than every other page.  I have always assumed this was a feature that was never implemented.

This only happens for me in the news and credits section, never in the blocks and panels.

WillyP

For the blocks, this happens when you are going to edit a block? Is it only block 66, every block, or random blocks?

These pages time out:

index.php?action=tpadmin;sa=news
index.php?action=tpadmin;sa=modules
index.php?action=tpadmin;sa=blocks

All other sections work fine.

The one common feature the above sections have is the "Latest XXXXX from tinyportal.net [Show] [Hide]" at the top of each section. The sections that work don't have any content pulled from tinyportal.net.

If someone can point me to the file which needs editing, I can try comment out the bit where it pulls info from tinyportal.net.. perhaps?

I think there were some things in tp that got pages from the old tp.net  or other items, not sure though! I will try to find out if I can.

I think this has to do with Bloc pointing the other domains to here now. Previously it was grabbing an RSS feed or something from his server to display the Latest TP stuff. We may need to get that script from Bloc. I'll have to take a closer look when I get a chance though.

WillyP

The newest version doesn't have this feature.  Except for checking if it's the latest version.  At some point it was removed?  Or is it just handled so when it doesn't connect, the feature doesn't show?  And why would it time out if it can't find the feed?

I apologize for giving incorrect information in my first post.  I guess it hasn't worked for so long I just forgot about it.

But the poster is using TP 1 beta 4.  I'd suggest an upgrade. :)
