Download manager cropping large files in download

After quite a few tests I have updated my site to TP.

A strange problem was encountered.

I have raised the filesize limit to 4.6 Mb (host limit). I had done some tests myself with video files near this size and it worked OK.

When members started uploading files we realized that download stopped at 2Mb. The files are uploded OK and I can download them correctly by FTP.

I uploaded the downloaded files after renaming. The same problem appears.

Files are mpg and wmv. The test files that work OK are also wmv.

Coppermine used so far works OK with uploads so I don't think it's a server problem.

I am a bit confused of what might be happening.

We will do more tests but it takes some time.

Can anyone with experience of large files downloads tell me how it goes in his site?

Never had been able to upload large files -- bloc posted a workaround - up load a Small file then ftp the large file with the same name and over wright the file that is in the tp-downloads

Ray there is a limit in HTTP upload. It depends on server settings. My host replied that it was 9 Mb ten months ago. I was not able to upload more than 2.5 ÃŽÅ"b until an upgrade in their systems. Even then 4.6 may be 5 Mb is the limit. I argue about this they said they will look after.

But this is something else. I know the server's current limits. I want the files to be uploaded by the members. I have settings within limits.

Please read again. It's a peculiar problem.

There is nothing peculiar about it at all. The limit within HTTP can be breached, but that is an exception more than a rule. Your members' ISPs may not have the exception programmed in or their own computer settings may be causing it.

TP's Download Manager is running through HTTP. For reliable larger uploads, you have to change over to FTP/SFTP. If you don't want to get everyone into an FTP mode, you could try something a little more creative, like a custom handler. An ActiveX control or a Java applet would do the trick, but that would need to be integrated with the TP Download Manager.

Just because you can do it doesn't mean everyone can.

I host my own service so I have complete control - and I can not upload large files and when i say large file i mean in the way of gigs - a 20 meg file np at all or even  500 meg ok so it must be your isp setting???

We talk about different things. I will try to explain again

1. There is a 4.6 Mb limit in uploads.
2. Coppermine upload and downloads work OK within this limit.
3. TP max filesize is set to 4.6 Mb.
4. Tests made with two wmv files around 4.5 Mb were sussesful. I uploaded them and me as admin as well as my members can dowload them correctly.

I think one would suggest that the system works OK. But ...

1. Members upload files bigger than 2 Mb.
2. Files are uploaded correctly.
3. If anybody tries to download them the download stops around 2Mb.
4. Using FTP I can download them correctly.
5. I upload through TP the downloaded by FTP complete file after changing name.
6. The file is uploaded correctly.
7. If anybody tries to download this file the download again stops around 2Mb.
8. The initial test files (they are the biggest) can still be downloaded correctly.

There is no  problem with uploads but with certain downloads.

That' s why I say that it is a peculiar problem and drives me crazy.

Oh I see now -or No I dont see - well I understand I think -- that is strange dont see why it would do that with such a small file.  BLOC where are you?

bloc

It does sound strange...I never experienced problems with downloading 2mb++.

Does a file uploaded through Coppermine ( bigger than 2mb) download fine through Coppermine too?

TwinsX2Dad

Might there be a commonality within file types? Might a jpg download okay, but a png doesn't?

Yes Bloc it works OK with Coppermine.

As you know I had done quite a few tests before changing my working site. It is true that I didn' t do extensive tests with big files (and files 2 Mb up to 4.6 Mb aren' t very big). The test site is SMF 1.1 RC2 my working 1.06 because I need the Table from CSV mod, I have several tables inside messages, mainly results from aeromodelling events.

What is more strange is that it doesn't happen always. We will plan some tests to exclude different possible reasons but I informed my members to stop uploading files bigger than 2 Mb before asking here.

We will use both SMF versions 1.06 and 1.1 RC2. I will inform ifÃ,  we will find something.

P.S. TwinsX2Dad file type is something I had thought of but we already have wmv files with different behaviors.
