I asked this question on the SMF site, with little result. A couple tried to assist me, but none offered a solution I was able to effect. So I will see if anyone here might know a solution.......

I have an IPB 1.3 Final board (complete with the absolutely awful MKPortal installed) and am trying to convert it to SMF (preferably to RC2). I had to first go to SMF 1.0, then to RC2. All went well as far as the basic conversion was concerned. My forums were converted, as well as posts and members. My problem is that I've had this board for years and have personally posted many articles in HTML. I know SMF will handle an admin doing HTML with basic tags - I even tested a couple of threads with flash - but is there anyway to either drop the SMF tag restriction or to automatically insert the tags in past posts?

The original IPB installation included an HTML tag, but a subsequent third party modification removed the need for that tag.

I have 477 HTML posts, with 65 of those containing tables. Many are using code above and beyond the basic HTML tags. Tables, some flash, etc. are all included. After the conversion, all of these posts show the HTML code and not the intended result.

I understand there might be some way of converting the posts through MySQL, but that makes me nervous without exact instructions.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You could add the html tag of course..and it will work - as long as the poster in each post is an admin. Other than that..it will be conversions that may or may not  work...

That works, although with some messy results with a few tables.   :tickedoff:

Might you know how to automatically insert the HTML tags to posts previously written? Or am I out of options, forced to manually do it?

well..if they are ordered by some common factor, a simple script can be made to simply update the post, tag a html tag in front and behind the body of the message and resave. If not ordered..it can still be done, but you need to select which posts.
