how to display recent post intead of recent topics?

I know it could sounds stupid but I only can get in the modules recent topics. How can I have recent post instead?
I, please need step by step. Thanks.
I'm also searching for displaying the next birthdays or events as a bloc/module. Can anybody help me? please.

PD: I'm using sapnish version of SMF 1.1 RC2 and TP 0.8.6 eith spanish version, but almost everything is inenglish.

For the Todays Events block you can make one of those with a SSI function block. Then choose "Todays Calendar" in the drop down menu.

As for the recent posts, you'll have to have someone write the function for you if you're not capable of doing it. If you do a search you'll see that someone has done it with the recent topics. You chould just change it to the recent posts and do the same thing probably.
